What do children learn at these camps?

Children with ADHD experience a boost of confidence at these camps. Kids and teens participate in a variety of traditional camp activities including arts and crafts, science experiments, nature walks, and music performance. Activities provide children with a sense of accomplishment combined with fun.

Camp counsellors and instructors create fun, supportive, and safe environments for children to improve their social, behavioral, and cognitive skills. A growing number of camps focus on improving children’s cognitive skills specifically. Through interactive games and assignments, children acquire faster processing and improve their comprehension, reasoning, and retention skills. ADHD camps also enhance children’s social skills, as children are always surrounded by peers and instructors. Children practice initiating conversations, asking questions, and providing appropriate responses to their peers’ comments and questions.

Camp leaders immerse children in common, everyday activities that teach children how to work alongside their ADHD. Team building activities, independent work, and lessons in empowerment raise children’s self-esteem.ADHD support camps are a chance for children to gain independence and participate in behavioural therapy away from home.

Academic ADHD camps are available as well, where children complete math, science, or writing activities. Prices for ADHD camps depend on the duration and style of camp. Prices for a more traditional, adventurous camp structure begin at $1,000, while more specialised and niche camps range between $100 and $500. All programs are coeducational, and different symptoms of ADHD between boys and girls are accommodated in camp.

Benefits kids gain from ADHD camp

Aside from the fun and learning they gain at camp, there are other benefits kids gain at these camps. Here’s a look:

    • Community of peers. ADHD camp alleviates the sense of difference kids may have. In this setting, their disorder is accepted and they’re surrounded by others facing the same challenges. They build friendships with fellow campers who have similar symptoms or experiences. Kids feel understood here, elevating their self-esteem, which may suffer in other environments.
    • Academic benefits. Children’s cognitive and soft skills are improved in ADHD camp. Camps’ programming helps heighten memory, comprehension skills, and independent problem-solving strategies. Children gain confidence in their academic abilities.
    • Be in nature! Kids also benefit from time outdoors! Children with ADHD will find this adds to the mental clarity and focus they gain at camp. If they learn to value time in nature, they can continue to reap its mental health benefits after camp.
    • Find coping mechanisms. Kids experiment with subjects as diverse as art, science, and writing to find where they excel. Frequently, children identify a coping mechanism that helps them relax in times of overstimulation, and they take this away from time at camp.
