Providing a safe and nurturing experience for girls since 1952. A place to make life-long friends, connect with nature, grow in confidence and self-esteem, learn new skills, and be part of a supportive community where girls can be themselves. Kayaking, canoeing, nature lore, hiking, crafts, drumming, singsongs, campfires, ukulele, guitar, drama, cookouts, and more.
Ryde is intentional on encouraging campers to be themselves and to be kind and considerate of others. We put emphasis on not worrying about having the latest fashion or makeup. Staff are great role models in these areas. We encourage appreciation and discovery of the wonders of the natural environment. The Nature Cabin nestled in the woods provides a space to check out our nature resources and give examples of what you may find on the hiking trails. Ryde has 5 hiking trails that allow discovery of the various areas of the property: hiking up to Old Baldy, taking the Ridge Trail along a granite ridge, discovering a beaver pond on the Beaver Dam trail, Echo trail along the river, and heading off through the woods to Lookout Rock.

Ryde Lake was formed in 1952 to provide all the benefits of a traditional camp setting, and it’s been happily doing that ever since. The sunsets are as important as the leadership training—the environment has been developed as one in which girls can step away from the stresses and demands of their daily lives and, for a period of time, live within a different set of priorities. That's something perhaps even more beneficial to girls today than it was all those years ago when the camp program was first created. It’s a place where they can be present to nature, and present to one another, and relax into a slower, more deliberate pace of life. The staff-to-camper ratio is low, and the staff return rate is very high, both things that suggest the quality of the experience and the environment.
As the Director of Ryde Lake Camp for over 20 years, I am committed to providing the best camp experience for each of our campers: a safe, nurturing and challenging environment.
Ryde Lake Camp, a non-profit organization, has enriched the lives of thousands of girls since 1952.
When you think of camp, the word ‘fun’ comes to mind. While camp can be an incredibly fun experience, it offers so much more. It provides a camper with opportunities to become more independent, learn new skills, increase self-esteem, make new friends, and to connect with the natural world. Camp allows us to digitally disconnect and connect to others and outdoor adventures.
Camp builds skills for life and provides opportunities for growth that will have a lasting impact in a camper’s life.
Many staff have been part of Ryde’s CIT leadership program and were campers themselves at Ryde. They bring their passion for camp and the desire to pass it on to our campers. A staff to camper ratio of 1:4 allows for excellent supervision.
Ryde is an accredited member of the Ontario Camps Association and complies with OCA's standards and all provincial government regulations, providing the highest standards of safety, supervision, and quality programming.
I look forward to welcoming your daughter to Ryde Lake Camp this summer.
Fran Sugawara, Executive Director
Ryde staff are passionate about providing a great camp experience for our campers. Campers LOVE the staff! Most of the staff are former Ryde campers and CITS. The staff-to-camper ratio is 1:4. Return annual rate of staff is 90% which means good program continuity. All waterfront staff are fully qualified as per provincial and Ontario Camps Association standards. All staff participate in pre-camp training.

Misty morning jumps into freezing cold water,
Boisterious sing-a-longs led by Otter,
Scrumptious food that warms you inside,
There are the things I love about Ryde.
Morning Watch in our cozy sweats,
Sitting on the dock making friendship bracelets,
Haunting loon calls on a deep starry night,
These are the things I love about Ryde.
Connecting with nature and those we hold dear,
Rekindling friendships year after year,
Each girl walks with God by her side,
These are the things I love about Ryde.
Sunrise on baldy, the docks by candlelight,
All of the memories I hold onto tight,
Community, acceptance, laughter, light,
These are the things I love about Ryde.
This is my 4th and final year as a camper. Ryde has been a big part of my life ever since I first stepped into the dining hall. Even when school started, I kept singing the peanut butter sandwich song and wondered when I was going to come back and how long until I could drive into that oh so familiar gravel road and see so many friendly and familiar faces. I have so many good memories: like when I first met Twilight and November, watching everybody swim at waterfront time while knitting on the docks, and of course, all my memories of the craft cabin(oh what a wonderful place!). And finally we got an archery range! Yes! Did you know that out of all the camps I've been to, this is the only camp I've returned to? After all these years, Ryde Lake Camp has been a place for me to unwind and relax with old friends and new and I can be myself (my hyer, happy self) and nobody would care (which is fantastic). I hope that all of you campers here today (old and new) will come back next year and feel the same warm, fuzzy feeling I do every time I return.
I have been a camper at Ryde Lake Camp for seven years. My story begins when I was almost eight and I asked my parents if I could go to an overnight camp. Coincidentally, a good friend wanted to come here but only if I came with her. As you could have guessed, I said "yes'. I arrived and went through the entire week without speaking and being extremely shy. When my parents picked me up on Saturday I did not stop talking and singing the entire drive home. Meanwhile people were probably left thinking that I had had a horrible time and that I would not return the following year. I think it's evident that I came back . . . again and again and again. Ryde Lake Camp has changed who I am as a person. It has made me more confident in myself and more conscious of the people around me. Every year I have learned something new about myself and have had a new adventure. Ryde has become a part of me and probably anyone who has come to this camp. The Ryde family spirit must be the reason that people keep coming back. Or maybe it's the amazing food. Whatever your reason, you know that you can come, have a week away from your troubles and have a blast! I can't wait to come back next year as a CIT, have more adventures and make more friends. I hope that Ryde Lake Camp will be around for many more years and impact lots of people just as it has impacted me.
