    Programs and Sessions Calendar

All programming is fully accessible, from getting in the pool or to the top of the climbing wall, staff are thoughtfully trained to utilize all adaptive equipment available to help your camper reach their goals. The most unique aspect of our programming is our use of camp "themes". Since our campers have been attending for decades, we set our weeks of camp apart by having creative themes for all to enjoy. These themes and characters are featured at meals, games, and a variety of special programs to peak campers interest and put a new spin on classic camp activities. We change our theme each week, and no two camps run the same theme, leading to your campers coming home from a wild week of fruits versus vegetables, or shark week.

Choose the right programs and sessions for your child; Easter Seals Summer Camp currently has 2 programs available; 3 TBD.

    Registration Details

Registration for overnight camp opens on February 10th, 2025! While spots are still open beyond that date, we highly recommend registering on that day, or within the week. The application can be quite lengthy, but after it is filled in once, it can be auto-filled from previous years information for future seasons. We typically recommend that families set aside 1.5 hours for their first registration, to ensure they have time to thoughtfully submit answers. Full payment is not required at the time of registration, and Autism Funding can be used to pay for camp. Subsidies are available as a part of the application process. If you have any questions, we are always available at [email protected].

The Our Kids review of Easter Seals Summer Camp

    our take

A really special camp, the Easter Seal Summer Camp is a camp for children, youth, and adults with disabilities. This isn’t just a camp offering accommodations—the camp is specifically tailored for those who have cognitive and physical challenges. Campers enjoy a wide variety of activities and don’t miss out on anything based on their abilities. The entire facility is fully accessible by everyone, so no one is ever left out of anything. Each week boasts a new theme, so campers are always engaged, no matter how many weeks they attend. What’s really unique about this camp is that they make a huge effort to make new campers very comfortable. Many of these new campers have never been away from home, so it is a welcome break for campers and their caregivers. Campers get to try new things and meet new people. The staff here are phenomenal and they really love what they do. They make every effort to ensure campers never hear the word no and that they are supported in everything they do.

The Life Changing Magic of Camp

I don’t have enough words to describe how grateful I am for Easter Seals. Tina arrives at camp and she holds court. All the counsellors and leaders and other participants remember her. It’s just like coming home. It’s such a beautiful thing. She spends a week there and it is absolutely the highlight of her year. She talks about it for months beforehand, and months afterwards. She just gets to celebrate life and enjoy it, it’s irreplaceable. The quality of the care, the compassion and kindness of the staff is absolutely incredible. Every year they select and hire the most competent capable, dedicated, enthusiastic, creative, energetic, bubbly personalities. I mean it’s just incredible. It’s such a safe, trusted space to come into. As soon as you enter the property, the energy that they have, you feel it right away, you feel welcome. You instinctively know that everybody is going to have a wonderful time. ... Show More

12 Years of Camp and Counting!

Easter Seals Summer camp is Lydia’s most anticipated activity of the year. From the day after one summer camp ends, she can’t wait for the next year’s camp dates announcements, registration dates, registration procedures and then the final anticipation of the drive to Camp Shawnigan. Lydia’s attendance at summer camp enables her to have a ‘regular’ summer camp experience. She has met so many lifelong friends and peers by attending, peers outside her regular day to day community. It also provides her family a week of respite, a week we feel good about because we know she is having the time of her life. She is either performing in the Talent show, out in a sailboat, swimming in the pool or lake, making crafts, swinging on the big swing or tye-dying a new shirt for her collection. It gives us time to recharge. Lydia tries to challenge herself each year by trying something new at each summer camp she attends. She has tried to step outside her comfort zone. She must be more independent and learn to speak up for herself while away at camp and not with those of us that know her needs automatically. She has been able to trust that her time away will be safe and fun. ... Show More

    Camp Possibilities

“At camp, they don’t hear the word no, which is what they hear a lot of when navigating the world around them. Here they can try any activity because it’s set up to be fully accessible and the staff are trained to work with all abilities and needs. And if a camper is nervous to try something, there is such a supportive environment to make them feel safe.” ... Show More

    28 Year Camper

I am so excited to be attending Camp Shawnigan again this year, I have already registered! I have been going to Easter Seals Camps since I was 6 years old and I’m now 34 ... that’s a LONG time! For me, the best part about Camp is making new friends and seeing my old ones. I love going on the big swing, doing arts and crafts (especially tie dying) and Kangaroo Court! ... Show More

    Camp is an Accepting Place

Camp Shawnigan is a place I can call home away from home. I get to see so many friends and spend a week just having fun, doing activities with no electronics and getting to meet new people are some of the things I love about camp. We all get to be ourselves and know that we are in a place that we all can feel accepted. We are grateful to have a place like Camp Shawnigan! ... Show More

    Director's Message

BC Easter Seals camps are often called the "Best Place on Earth", which is a title that carries with it a great deal of responsibility.

When we picture the best place on earth, it has everything that matters. It has staff who are friendly and understanding, who do their best to make every day feel special. It's in a location that gives us room to breathe, grow, and move, usually with access to beautiful old growth trees, mountain views, and natural bodies of water. It has activities that are accessible to everyone by design, tailored to your interests, and sleeping spaces just as comfortable and easy to use as your bed at home. But that's just the beginning, because even with all of this, it is the feeling of belonging that makes our camp the best place on earth.

Year over year, our campers come back telling us about their favorite stories from the last time they were here, and how long they waited to come back. We often get countdowns emailed to us from families, requests for best friends to be bunked together, and eager questions making sure that their camper has everything they need for their favorite week of the year. When we ask our summer staff why they come back, they always say the same thing: That they grew so much in their previous summer that they want to be a part of creating that opportunity for others, and that camp has become the place that feels like home for them.

What makes our camps the best is dedication to quality, understanding that the small moments matter just as much as the big ones, and making sure our programs are inclusive to everyone. Our camps provide chances for campers to fulfill their dream of making it to the top of the climbing wall, and to have a new group of friends eagerly cheering them on at the bottom. Taking the extra moments to create a space where everyone belongs is what makes us the best place on earth.

At our camps, our campers and staff will:

    • Gain confidence, independence, and responsibility and CELEBRATE WHO THEY ARE.
    • Have opportunities to challenge themselves, take risks and try new things in a safe, warm and supportive environment
    • Become active members of a community that embraces the beauty and diversity of self, others and the environment.
    • Have opportunities to cultivate meaningful friendships and experiences that contribute to their personal growth and development.
    • HAVE FUN!

Please reach out to me if you have any questions. Myself and our Camp Director, Dale Kilgour, are here to make sure you feel confident sending your family member to camp.

    James Gagnon,

Vice-President, Programs and Services at BC Easter Seals

    Staff and Counsellors

Diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility are essential to creating a meaningful and vibrant workplace. Our staff are some of the most caring, empathetic, and fun individuals you can come across! Often decked out in tie-dye, crocs, and fanny packs, our camp counselors' goal is to spend their summer connecting with campers, supporting people with disabilities, and empowering everyone to be themselves. Our staff are skilled in the areas of personal care, lifts and transfers, behavior support, emergency procedures, in addition to thoughtful discourse for supporting campers with disabilities. Many of our camp staff use their experience in their professional lives as they move on to become teachers, doctors, and therapists!
