Founded in 1924, Camp Oconto is a traditional overnight camp for girls, located on the beautiful shores of Eagle Lake north of Kingston, Ontario. Oconto is a supportive environment where campers can express themselves, build self-confidence, gain skills, and make lifelong friendships. Over 18 activities are offered on 80 acres of land & 2km of shoreline. Campers are ages 4-16.
Oconto is an all-girls camp known for fostering an environment where campers feel comfortable being their true, authentic selves. Our philosophy is to help each individual grow socially, emotionally, intellectually, and physically in a safe and happy environment under the leadership of mature staff. Oconto is the perfect setting to explore nature and discover yourself. Campers are encouraged to enthusiastically embrace new challenges while encouraging and supporting their peers. It is a place where lasting memories are made, and enduring friendships begin. Oconto campers are proud of their camp and are unified by the positive camp spirit we encourage.

Oconto is one of the great girls’ camps in the country, with a long history of consistent leadership. Founded in 1924, the camp has been directed by Bronwyn and Ted Gorsline since 2019. Bronwyn’s family, though, has owned and run the camp since 1949, so they carry on a legacy of leadership in the camping world stretching back all those years. She grew up here! Her mom, Lisa, served as president of the Society of Camp Directors and was a member of the board of the Ontario Camps Association. That impressive pedigree is evident throughout the camp, from the architecture—the main hall, for one, has been in continual use since 1924—to the values promoted through the programming. The sense of tradition is palpable and animates the Oconto experience; girls who have attended feel that they are part of a family, shared with all the campers who have gone before. The activities are varied, though it’s the experience of the culture of the camp that campers typically treasure the most.

We are incredibly lucky to have such dedicated, compassionate, and creative leaders on the staff team at Oconto. Staff are carefully selected for their ability to understand and nurture each individual, with most of our staff having been Oconto campers themselves. They are chosen for their leadership skills, maturity, and experience working with young people, making them fantastic role models. Counsellors must have the necessary qualifications for the activity they teach, with all staff being certified in First Aid and all waterfront staff having their National Lifeguard certification. Our staff know how to make anything a fun and exciting experience and welcome new campers with warmth, positivity, and unwavering care and support!
