New Leaf Literacy Camp follows from this organization's expertise in one-to-one literacy tutoring in the Wilson Reading System, an intensive program proven effective in helping young at-risk readers. The camp is ideal for struggling or learning disabled primary-grade students from across Peel, Halton, York, and Toronto who need to get on track with academic literacy. Literacy training in the four-week program targets kids’ reading skills, handwriting, spelling, and understanding of English grammar and punctuation, with some play thrown into the mix. Class sizes are small, ensuring that students get optimal personal attention. To further ensure the success of this camp, it’s supervised by a team that includes a clinical psychologist as well as professional teachers. New Leaf’s after-school coaching and tutoring are also suitably intense and effective.
Camp program fees include supervision by coaches and instructors who are certified in Standard First Aid and CPR, and who have a police check. Literacy coaches have completed formal Wilson Language Training and will be providing the Fundations Ready to Rise Curriculum. The literacy coaches will be supported in leading the recreational activities offered between literacy instruction times by instructors who include teachers and ECEs. Day-to-day operations of the camp are supervised by a teacher and a clinical psychologist each registered in the province of Ontario.
