At camp we believe that everyone should "go to bed proud". Proud of the way they treated themselves and the way they treated others. That does not mean we don't make mistakes. Camp is about learning and growing (not always easy) in a safe supportive place where you are seen, heard and everyone knows your name. We are proud that most of our campers return year after year and consider camp their summer home.

Choose the right programs and sessions for your child; Bear Creek Outdoor Centre currently has 3 programs available; 1 TBD.

The Our Kids review of Bear Creek Outdoor Centre

    our take

Bear Creek Outdoor Centre is a small, family-run, overnight camp near Ottawa Ontario. Director Jill Baxter started the camp with a clear focus of creating a positive community where all kids are celebrated.

Likely one of the smallest overnight summer camps, with a capacity of just 42 kids, Bear Creek Camp is one of those places where everyone knows everyone. Campers are welcomed by name, and Baxter and her staff look forward to their return year after year. All summer programs at Bear Creek exist to use outdoor adventure as a vehicle for personal growth and development so that, as Baxter says “every time a camper feels the warmth of the sun on their back they are reminded of their love of nature, their friendships, their challenges, and their accomplishments…Just thinking of the sunshine of summer will remind them to stand up straight and move forward with the confidence of knowing who they truly are”.

Bear Creek is a summer home for many kids and grows with the child through teen canoe trips and leadership training where teens can gain valuable experience and certifications in outdoor skills. Bear Creek Camp is located on a stunning 400-acre, secure, wooded property with a pristine private lake. This simple, off-grid, and off-line environment is truly a place where community takes centre stage.

    Happy Camper

Hi Jill, My daughter has returned from camp happy, excited, motivated, inspired, and full of stories from camp. Most importantly, she is happy in her skin and in her body, and aware of her strength and how to take care of herself, and others. I can’t thank you & the counsellors enough—it was such a great experience for her and everything I’d hoped for! —Kristi ... Show More

He would like to live at camp but is settling for a return trip next year. Thank you Jill and all of the camp staff for providing such a fun and safe adventure ... Show More

    Director's Message

It is hard to believe that we are making plans for our 25th summer at Bear Creek. We are very excited to open up new programming for summer 2025 and welcome camp families new and old.
Over the years I have had the great privilege to become very close to all of our camp families and to share in the growth of these amazing young people. I am exceedingly grateful for each precious moment. For each burst of sunshine, each proud achievement and each new friendship formed at camp.
What an amazing community we have all built together.

I can't wait to see you at camp.

    Jill

  • What's New

    Stories

    • Residential summer camp for your child, only $25/week!

That’s right folks you heard it here! Your child can experience all of the fun, all of the growth, the confidence, the resiliency, the skills, and the friendships that only a residential camp experience can offer for the low price of just $25/week.

I know that you are a believer in the value of residential summer camp. You know the stories, you understand the “why” but you hold back because the sticker price is scary.

I am here to help you get camp off of your “nice to have” list and put it on the “must have” list for your children.

The new school year is a time to start things fresh for your family. You equip yourself with all of the right tools, new pencils, new running shoes and a shiny new family budget. This is the time of year where we, as families, set our priorities and make decisions about how we will design this coming year.

Include camp in your investments for your children, and then automate it. Just as with other investments when you automate the process you can sit back and think about other things and rest assured that you are on track to realizing your intentions.

Most banks offer online savings accounts with no fees. I have an online savings account that I have nicknamed “camp”. Every two weeks a small amount of money goes into that account automatically. It’s just gone out of my checking account and I hardly noticed (the amount has been budgeted for!).

I can then safely register my child for camp next summer right away and take advantage of the early registration discounts that most camps offer in early fall. Then, in the spring, when time comes to pay the camp tuition balance the money is there…Ta Da!

Now all you have to do is get out there and find the perfect camp.

Check out http://www.ourkids.net to find out what camps are out there. Talk to the camp director to see if this camp is right for your child.

And when camp is all over make sure to save your tuition receipt and talk to your tax specialist about allowable child care expenses for residential programs.

      Yeah camp!
