How to find the best Kanata camps for your family

If you’re serious about summer camp, we recommend you start researching early in the year, no later than the end of February. When you reach out to camps using the links above, here’s a starter list of questions to help you get started finding great camps for your child:

  • Ask camp leaders what the schedule for a typical day is like. How much does the camp  focus on activities your child enjoys?
  • Ask about counsellor training and certification. Confirm that all are police checked.  Find out if they have training with regard to discipline and bullying. Do they have First Aid training? Are they trained under the ASAP Camp Safety Program? Find out if you can meet the counsellor who will be leading your child and how you will contact them.
  • Ask if there are any prerequisites for the camp.
  • Ask about the goal or projected outcome of the camp. What are kids expected to take away from the camp experience?
  • Ask about groupings. Is it by age range? How big are the groups?
  • Ask about before and after care. What is the earliest drop off and latest pickup time?
