Scratch is a programming language designed specifically for beginner programmers. With an easy-to-use interface, kids and teens learn how to code at their own pace. Scratch camps embrace this simplicity. Kids code animations, games, and more, using basic programming concepts like loops, conditional statements, and variables.
Scratch camps embrace the artistic side of coding that involves composition and design. Camps offer Scratch activities alongside robotics, LEGO, and game design activities. Camps' mixed curriculum integrates storytelling and visual design with coding
Your child learns how to effectively brainstorm, plan, and run their codes. Problem solving is a large part of Scratch camps, as kids and teens learn how to solve small coding problems that all first-time programmers face. Kids as young as 4 years old are welcome at Scratch camps, though a majority of camps target children age 6 and up. Some camps are divided by level of skill. Beginners in Scratch coding with find options above, as do kids with previous experience working with Scratch.
At more advanced Scratch camps, kids and teens begin to explore real-world applications of programming. They deepen their understanding of how programming affects their everyday lives. Design becomes a larger component of projects, and campers take a more active role in deciding what animations and games will look like. They grow their visual art skills as a result, including composition and colour theory. Skills can be used to create more complex projects on more advanced programming platforms, in the future. They may also include entry into top robotics and programming competitions.
Prices for these camps begin at $30 per week, while some rise to over $500 for the full semester
Programming is made fun at Scratch camps due to its kid-friendly interface. Here are some of the things your child finds at Scratch camp.
