Embark on an unforgettable journey to destinations across the globe! Spend eight days to three weeks abroad as you broaden your horizons through community-led volunteer initiatives, leadership exploration, hands-on learning and thrilling adventure activities in our travel programs & internships.
It's all about balance! Our programs are a great fit for teens who want to get out of their comfort zone and experience a different way of life, but still crave a structured, highly supervised, safe environment. Often, our programs attract students who are drawn to community service--however, this component also functions as a means through which they are able to gain insights into a new culture and global issues such as environmental sustainability or public health. We work side by side with local leaders to identify and implement these projects, which is crucial.
Choose the right programs and sessions for your child; Global Leadership Adventures currently has 3 programs available; 27 TBD.

We accept students on a first-come, first-served basis starting in August of the previous year. Enrollment closes two weeks prior to the session start date; however, many sessions fill by early Spring so we encourage families to apply early. Families must submit a multi-section online application, including a $600 USD deposit, self-assessments, two essay questions, and a detailed medical history form; in some cases, a virtual follow-up interview may be required. Applicants should meet our Essential Eligibility Criteria. Our refund policy is based on the date of cancellation. Our Admissions team is happy to answer any questions or guide families through the application process!

What parents and alumni both highlight about Global Leadership Adventures (GLA) programs is that they are not just trips; they are transformative experiences that inspire students to better understand their role in the world. GLA is dedicated to shaping the next generation of global leaders through immersive travel, service-learning, and cultural exploration. GLA offers overnight camps and programs abroad, which combine community service, adventure activities like zip-lining and snorkeling, and a leadership curriculum designed to boost confidence and self-awareness. Projects vary based on themes such as public health or environmental sustainability and are executed in collaboration with local leaders, ensuring meaningful community impact. Students engage in activities like hands-on work in rural clinics, wildlife conservation, and cultural immersion, fostering curiosity and independence. GLA's unique approach balances structured, supervised environments with opportunities for teens to step out of their comfort zones. Safety is top-priority, ensured with a 6:1 student-to-staff ratio, comprehensive emergency plans, and 24/7 supervision in group lodging. Global Leadership Adventures offers educational journeys that build leadership skills, cultural understanding, and global citizenship in today’s youth.

To all of our future teen travelers and parents, welcome!
Nothing in the world matches the energy of connecting with enthusiastic student travelers who are getting ready to travel far from home, often on their own for the first time, as they prepare to meet up with the rest of their GLA group. And even more so, as a parent myself, I really enjoy connecting with parents who are nervously excited to see the young leader in their family take those first huge steps out into the wider world for an experience they will never forget.
And the “nervous excitement” I mentioned earlier is key, because as the mother of two boys, I understand that while many parents want their child to have this transformational travel and volunteer experience during their teenage years, they also want to make sure they’re safe and well cared for every step of the way.
From the lodging that we call our Home Base or “home away from home,” to the vehicles we drive, the meals we prepare and the staff we hire – each element of the GLA experience is built to provide a foundation of safety for our students, while also allowing them to explore a new destination, experience new cultures and make new friends a world away from home.
Since all of our programs have group lodging, not homestays, we are able to provide 24/7 student supervision. We maintain an 6:1 student to staff ratio, which allows students freedom to develop new friendships and explore their host community, while still having the support of knowledgeable and caring staff members.
We have also developed a comprehensive emergency response plan based on years of operational experience, and while we never plan to activate it, we can rely on this comprehensive plan being there should we ever need it. We also have professional support staff such a Medical Director, Mental Health consultant and Crisis Management team that provides procedures for many different eventualities, from health issues to natural disasters. The safety and security of our students is our highest priority from start to finish.
With this one-of-a-kind program model and best-in-class staff support, we have the privilege to help shape the leaders of the next generation and allow students a safe space to explore what fuels their passions. The service work on every GLA program serves as the vehicle to learn about specific themes, communities and cultures in a purposeful way. It allows us to help connect students’ hearts and heads in a journey of self-discovery, global awareness and local impact.
Our leadership curriculum helps us to inspire teens to realize their potential to transform the world and their role in it. Our cultural engagement and adventure excursions fill out the experience too, by opening students’ eyes to new ways of seeing things, and engaging their sense of discovery.
From my family to yours, we hope to earn your trust and have the opportunity to deliver an exceptional experience for the young leader in your family.
Our Mentors and Directors are what we like to call "teen experts": in addition to current CPR/First Aid certifications, a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree, leaders must have years of relevant experience working with teens, whether that be in a classroom, wilderness adventure, or camp setting. We truly run our camp counselors through the wringer when it comes to hiring: background checks, multiple interviews and assessments ensure that we build balanced, competent, and FUN teams to lead our programs and care for students abroad. Over 70% of our staff return from previous years. Many of our Mentors and Directors also hold WFR certification, Masters degrees and other certifications as each programs' activities require.
