Celebrating its centenary in 2020, Camp Chikopi has a long and very unique history. It was founded as a sports camp at a time when such a thing simply didn’t exist. It was founded by a US Olympic coach, Matt Mann, and the approach that he brought, as well as the level of coaching experience, remains to this day. Directorship of the camp has remained essentially in the family, if with a few twists and turns along the way, and leadership has been strikingly consistent, particularly in upholding the founding values of challenge, community, teamwork, and adventure. Campers arrive to an environment that is dedicated to personal achievement, physical activity, and excellence. Facilities are excellent, with all the appropriate updates while being sympathetic to the traditions and the history of the site.

Dear Families,
Thank you for your interest in Camp Chikopi! Let us share more about what makes Chikopi special. If you would like more details after reading, visit our website or request our e-brochure. We are happy to answer any questions or connect you with alumni.
Founded in 1920, Chikopi is the world’s first boys all sports summer camp. We offer boys a unique mix of traditional sports and a true wilderness experience. Nestled on 400 stunning acres in the Almaguin Highlands of Ontario, Canada, our waterfront location is perfect for both land and water sports. While we offer a wide variety of activities, we specialize in soccer and swimming.
At Chikopi, everyone participates in everything. Competitive swimmers also play soccer, tennis, and basketball. Soccer players paddle, bike, and sail. Campers who play on club teams at home try sports they may never have played before. They experience the joy of doing everything and discover new talents along the way.
Campers live in age assigned, rustic wood cabins, forming friendships and building independence in a tech free environment. Through teamwork and leadership, they thrive in nature and gain lifelong skills.
Our dedicated staff keeps a 3 to 1 camper to counselor ratio, ensuring individual attention. Many counselors are former campers, chosen for their skills and passion for mentoring the next generation.
With space for 70 boys ages 7 to 17, we welcome campers from around the world. Sessions range from 2 to 7 weeks, with transportation available on scheduled dates. Activities include soccer, tennis, basketball, archery, sailing, mountain biking, and more.
Chikopi is proudly accredited by the Ontario Camps Association.

Best regards,
Colette Duenkel
At Camp Chikopi, we take great care in selecting our counselors, choosing individuals who excel in leadership and serve as positive role models. All staff undergo comprehensive interviews and background checks to ensure your child is in trusted hands. Many of our counselors were former Chikopi campers, continuing our 100 plus years of tradition and spirit. Our team participates in extensive training before campers arrive, ensuring they are well-prepared to care for your child. Every counselor is First Aid certified, and the majority are also Lifeguard certified, so you can feel confident knowing your child is safe and well-supported throughout their experience.
