During this time, he is hoping to swim to Magnetawan. As you may have noticed, he is loving the open water L-O-N-G distance. You may not have known that Michael placed 3rd in open water provincials in July as a 12 yr old. This swim season, Michael is in the running to qualify for the Windsor Essex International Children's Games 2019 Team. In July 2019, the games are in Ufa, Russia. We are keeping our fingers crossed!!! Especially hoping all the timing will work out. We will be signing up for next summer as soon as it is available. Once again, thank you! Stacey and Shawn ps.... I've been wanting to email you a huge thank you for the amazing summer for Tayuto and Hyuga. Tayuto has been telling me about his summer in bits and pieces. He said that you were the main reason why the camp is so special -- according to Tayuto you are strict but quite funny and a very nice person with a warm heart (high praise coming from a 14-year-old boy!) What I've gathered is that he loved that everyone was embraced and affirmed for who they really are, warts and all. He keeps saying, "Everyone is so nice at Camp Chikopi." It is now the gold standard by which he compares the world. Of course, nothing comes close to Camp Chikopi so he is often disappointed, but I think it makes him appreciate the camp all the more. And, Camp Chikopi is special also because I think he felt like he could be his best self while he was there. Having Tayuto and Hyuga attend the camp was absolutely the right decision!! Kai came back fairly exhausted but he has been opening up more and more about his experiences. He certainly has a lot to process but I can tell from the huge smile on his face that he has many fond memories of his time at camp and that he made some amazing new friends. My hope in sending Kai to camp was that he would be able to experience what a summer holiday in Canada is all about. To that extent, I feel his time at Chikopi was a massive success. He definitely has a better understanding of Canada, the outdoors and of all the teachings he has been able to take away from his brief time at Chikopi. So, again, thank you so much and best wishes. Tue, 11 Oct 2022 14:24 Thank you Collette. I have seen the impact of camp in him already. He has been consistently dropping 5 to 6 minutes in every cross country race this fall. Kameron loved his time at Chikopi this past summer and can't wait to go back. His two younger brothers are excited to give it a try next summer as well! It makes my camp heart happy that my boys have the opportunity to have these camp experiences. Thank you for carrying on the Chikopi traditions. Hi Colette I just wanted to send you a note to give a big thank you to you and your team for running such an amazing camp. I will hear much more about it tonight, but I briefly spoke with Robert on his way home and he had nothing but positive comments to give about the camp. He had an amazing time, made great connections and loved everything! He commented on the delicious food and the extra portions he helped himself to as a result. He definitely wants to go back next year although it will be longer than the 2 weeks. Given this was his first experience away, I was a bit apprehensive although you were great to get me past the first phase, then getting Robert’s letter and all the Instagram photos of the camp showing happy Robert (engaged in activities) kept the worries at bay. I hope you enjoyed the rest of your summer and we will certainly see you next year. I’ve spread the word and a couple more boys are also planning to join in next year.
