(5) Overall experience

Attending Camp Chikopi was a life-changing experience for me, both professionally and athletically. It taught me the importance of giving my 100% in everything I do while still enjoying the process. Unlike any other formative experience in my life, this was the first time I stepped into a leadership role, serving as a role model for kids and counselors as well, while sharing my knowledge across different sports. At the same time, I gained invaluable insights from my peers, the campers themselves and especially Colette the main leader. Some of my fondest memories include the incredible canoe trips, especially to Algonquin National Park, and the beautiful sunsets and campfires at Chikopi Point. These moments, along with the bonds I formed, will stay with me forever. Camp Chikopi is truly a special place that leaves a lasting impact for anyone who experiences it.

(5) Unique value

Camp Chikopi embodies a unique spirit of adventure, discipline, and camaraderie. It offers a healthy environment free from technology, where people come together to enjoy outdoor activities and fully immerse themselves in each discipline with enthusiasm and determination. What truly sets this camp apart is its mindset—encouraging everyone to give 100% in everything they do while ensuring that every moment remains engaging and fun. The balance between challenge and enjoyment makes Chikopi an unforgettable experience that leaves a lasting impact on all who attend

(5) Program quality and activities

During my time there, I tried canoeing, sailing, and mountain biking for the first time, all of which became unforgettable experiences. Camping in the wilderness also taught me valuable survival skills. One of my biggest challenges was swimming—I thought I was an average swimmer in Mexico, but at camp, I pushed myself to refine my technique and improve my endurance. Traditions like the annual canoe trip, team activities like Rambo, and the Niagara Falls trip were highlights I eagerly anticipated. While every day at camp was incredible, these moments stood out as milestones that made each year even more special.

(5) Social dynamics and experience

Yes, while at camp I created lasting friendships that I still cherish today. I keep in touch with many fellow participants and staff, and whenever our schedules align, we go camping together in Mexico. The camp’s environment, free from distractions, allowed us to truly connect—we spent our days talking, sharing experiences, and working as a team. The many group activities fostered a deep sense of camaraderie, making those bonds even stronger. These connections, built through teamwork and shared challenges, have remained an invaluable part of my life long after camp ended.

(5) Skills and growth

Chikopi taught me to push myself beyond my limits, realizing that I am capable of more—both physically and mentally—even when exhausted. I also learned how to navigate different types of personalities and work towards a common goal, which has been invaluable in leadership and teamwork. The skills and values I gained, such as effective communication, people management, and always giving my best, continue to guide me today. Whether in my professional life or personal relationships, the lessons from camp have had a lasting impact.

(5) Reflections and advice

If I could give advice to future participants, it would be to embrace every moment—time flies when you're having fun. Be open to new friendships, push yourself outside your comfort zone, and take in every experience because each one will shape you in ways you can’t yet imagine. If I had the chance to relive my experience, I wouldn’t change a thing. Every challenge, lesson, and memory helped shape me into who I am today. One lesson I’d pass on to the next generation is to never fear hard work or physical challenges. At first, it may seem overwhelming, but just like in life, you get tougher, and things become easier. Camp Chikopi teaches resilience, and that’s a lesson that lasts forever.
