The STEAM Project is for creative kids who love science, technology, robotics, and designing! Students learn while they invent, digitally fabricate, and build projects through hands-on experiences with current and new technologies. 3D printing, electronics, robotics, coding, and woodworking are just some of the activities students get to explore at The STEAM Project!
The STEAM Project is unique in its focus on blending traditional camp activities and creativity with advanced technological tools like 3D printing, robotics, electronics and more. It offers hands-on experience that emphasizes problem-solving and innovation in science, technology, engineering, art, and math. It also empowers kids to design and build real-world projects, encouraging future-ready skills in a fun and engaging environment. It’s designed for children of all ages and provides a pathway to developing both technical and creative talents.

It’s easy to think about STEAM instruction through the stuff—the 3D printers, the robotics, the makerspaces—though it’s as much, if not more, about people. The first three people in this particular environment were three teachers who wanted to spend their summers having fun while helping kids have fun learning about their world and their talents. Jay Wengle, one of them, brings an infectious energy to the work at hand, which is working with others to explore new concepts and apply them to new ideas. Communication and teamwork is part of it, as is learning to express yourself to others as much as you listen to what they have to say. The stuff, at the end of the day, is great—the kids solve problems, together, in unique ways—but it’s the relationships, and a way of being in the world, that is the biggest takeaway. These sessions are expertly, professionally run, and are supported through a wide array of resources. The camp, thanks to the personality and passion of the founders, is an expression of the wider community, with lots of diverse partners choosing to take part, including local schools, merchants, and the curling club. Session themes keep things fresh for returning campers. Enrollment is intentionally kept small to maintain the quality of the interactions. In every way, there's a lot to love.

Our vision at The STEAM Project is to prepare youth for a world that increasingly demands scientific and technological innovation, thoughtful design, and a focus on empathy.
Our programs support and foster imagination and creativity by providing youth with hands-on experiences and skill development using new and emerging technologies that enable limitless possibilities for design and invention.
Our mission at the STEAM Project is to foster empathy through a human-centred approach to design that we call "Design with Purpose."
Sincerely,
James (Jay) Wengle,
Why S.T.E.A.M?
S.T.E.A.M is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. As youth design and create, they will learn about and develop skills in these areas as they relate to the problems they are trying to solve. We believe that the best learning happens in context and when there is an immediate need to know or understand something. Instead of learning about science or mathematics or art in isolation, we focus on problems that need solutions and require learning and skills in many of the STEAM disciplines simultaneously.
Our Story
The STEAM Project was founded by three Science teachers with a passion for working with youth and for fostering creativity and innovative thinking by making new and emerging technologies more accessible. After realizing some of the limitations of teaching in a structured school setting, we felt compelled to develop programs that supplement school learning in a meaningful way and that offer a deeper exploration and interaction with topics in science and technology. We chose a design approach to learning because it allows us to incorporates the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics well. It is also an enjoyable and natural way to learn.
The STEAM Project camp boasts a highly personalized approach with a 1:4 staff-to-camper ratio, ensuring that each child receives close guidance and mentorship. This incredible ratio allows the diverse team of expert educators, engineers, and artists to provide tailored support, nurturing creativity, innovation, and critical thinking in every camper. With this individualized attention, counselors can fully engage with students, helping them tackle complex projects while building confidence in both technical skills and creative exploration.
