At comedy camp, your child gets training in various forms of comedy, including stand up, sketch comedy, and improv. Using their creative thinking skills, kids and teens come up with their own jokes and find a sounding board in teachers and other campers. Campers experiment with genres such as slapstick, situational, and observational comedy. Comedy camps teach the different traits of genres, and encourage campers to write and perform each. Writing can be a large component of comedy camp, as kids and teens create their own stand-up routines or sketch comedy scenes. This is generalized. Consult camps above for specific details of their curriculum and activities.
Theatre arts and oral presentation skills are developed at these camps. As kids and teens perform on stage, they learn fundamental acting skills. Character workshops are integrated into most comedy camps, where your child builds funny characters and learns how to embody them on stage. Verbal storytelling is a main component of comedy camp in which kids and teens learn how to use descriptive language, tone, pitch, and pacing to deliver stories in a funny way.
At more advanced comedy camps, kids and teens further apply their interests and develop their own style. In some cases, your child may study famous comedy performances or work with experienced stand ups. Campers continuously improve their overall performance, as they apply what they learn to routines and sketches they develop.
At the end of camp, performances and showcases are often held to test children’s comedic skills in front of live audiences. Improvisation performances might also be part of this, with kids and teens embracing spontaneity and telling unpredictable stories.
Prices for these camps start at $30 but can rise to close to $500.
Kids and teens explore their passion for comedy at camp, while also developing new, essential life skills. Some extra benefits you might gain at camp include:
