(4.5) Overall experience
He thoroughly enjoys going to camp and our son was so happy to return to camp the next summer, to experience the kindness of the staff and fellow campers and to enjoy all the new experiences they had. He immediately asked if he could go back for a second week and again the next year. He has been going back every summer since he started three years ago. Camp brings out the confidence in him to be more social and outgoing with his peers and helps him to meet new people on his own.
(5) Reason for choosing the camp
This camp offered hockey experiences and training, which he enjoyed. It was also the same camp his cousins attended, so this helped offset his initial nervousness. The camp was within driving distance from his home city, which made it convenient and easy to drop off and return to pick him up.
(5) Program quality and activities
There was always a variety of well-supervised, structured, unique, and fun activities all day long. He really enjoyed the hockey camp, the high ropes course, and the wakeboarding components. As well, he said the food was delicious. The salad bar, burgers, and spaghetti were his favorites. Even on the occasional rainy day, the campers found enjoyment in the various indoor games, activities, and events that occurred.
(4) Social dynamics and experience
He made lots of new friends from all over, the continent, as well, he continued to keep in touch with a few throughout the year afterwards. There were not any issues with bullying, the counsellors continued to talk with the kids and keep all attitudes and behaviours in check throughout the stay. It was especially cool to learn about the counsellors who were from Ireland and other parts of the world.
(4.5) Skills and growth
Our son gained confidence in himself in many ways after attending camp. When he first started the camp, it helped push him to overcome his fears and learn how to get up on the wakeboard and participate in these fun and unique water sports. He gained social skills he will be able to use throughout his life, such as meeting new friends in school and sports or facing awkward social encounters at school and learning how to navigate these situations down the road.
(4.5) Staff/Instructors/Counsellors
The counselors gave a great tour of the facility and helped us parents feel good about dropping him off, knowing he would be safe and well supervised by some amazing young adults from both local and all over the world. Before the camp started we received some emails to help us prep for the week. We could follow the camp on various social media to see fun pictures of the ongoing activities and keep up to date knowing they were all in good hands and having a blast.
(4.5) Preparation and packing
Preparation and packing seemed to be fine, we did bring an extra set of hooks to clip onto the side of the bunkbeds, to help with hanging the wet bathing suits and towels, just to help him ensure items in the cabin were kept clean and up off the floor.
(5) Advice and tips
If your child is into figure skating or hockey, this program is fantastic. Our son loved the skills portion and cooler arena time that came with the hockey program, during the hot summer days. Also if they enjoy water sports it's got a great team that helps the kids get up and on top of the water and enjoy it with safety at the forefront.
