(4.5) Overall experience

My boys have loved this camp. I had to go in for surgery and I needed a place to send my boys during that time. The owners were very accommodating and helped to ensure all three of my boys (including my goalie child) had good mentors, were well-supported throughout their stay, and had an incredible time. The boys loved learning to water ski in the mornings and then developing their passion - hockey - in the afternoon. All the boys came home excited about their new friendships, skills, and experiences. All three were keen to go back the following year. My middle child is now doing leadership courses with hopes of someday being a counselor at Winning Techniques. The boys have created lifelong memories while developing their hockey, leadership, and social skills. I will continue to send my boys there and I highly recommend it to others.

(4.5) Reason for choosing the camp

As mentioned above I needed a place that would support my boys in a time when I wasn't able to. I researched multiple camps and chose Winning Techniques due to the commitment of the owner, Kim, and the variety of activities available. Kim answered all my questions and assured me the boys would be cared for while having a great time at her camp. There are no hidden costs and the owners and counselors are all invested and committed to the campers.

(5) Program quality and activities

The camp aligns with my boys as they like adventure and hockey. At Winning Techniques, they were able to develop their passion and learn new skills and games. They looked forward to waterskiing, the ropes courses, and playing camp games. The hockey trainers sent home a short report showing the boys' hockey growth over the week. My middle child was able to complete the lifesaving Bronze Medallion course. The boys were also proud to have received awards for their dedication to cleaning their cabins and their efforts on the ice.

(5) Social dynamics and experience

My boys all enjoyed the camp and meeting other campers. They look forward to going to camp the following year during the same week so they can see their friends from last year. There are no issues at all with bullying or inclusion. The counselors were amazing and the owners were always on-site ensuring a quality program. There are campers from other countries with whom the boys thoroughly enjoyed meeting and socializing.

(4.5) Skills and growth

The boys came home very excited about their week at camp and asked immediately to be able to come again the following year. All of the boys came home with new hockey skills and confidence. The experience they've had at camp makes the investment worthwhile. Learning to waterski pushed them out of their comfort zone and was a good challenge for them.

(4.5) Staff/Instructors/Counsellors

The administration and staff were amazing right from the start. Kim answered all my questions. We communicated by email and via telephone. She was very patient and made registration very easy. When we arrived they took us and the boys on a tour of the camp. We felt comfortable leaving them there. The boys contacted us every evening using their cell phones (I believe this was the only time they used their phones for the whole week).

(5) Preparation and packing

My boys were all first-time campers when they went to WT. Kim the owner was great at answering questions. Plus, her staff sent us a very informative video on how to pack and prepare for camp. All the things that they needed for the camp were things they already owned (e.g. clothes and hockey equipment). Very easy!

(4.5) Advice and tips

My advice to parents is to 'Go for it!' If I hadn't needed support for the boys during surgery they never would have gone to camp. However, I am so glad that they have had these experiences. All of my interactions with WT have been positive. The staff are well trained and prepared to provide a safe and fun experience for your child. If you have any concerns call the camp directly. I found that they are very committed to ensuring every camper has a positive adventure.
