Introduction to Computer Science (ICS3U) is a course that provides students with an immersive experience in the world of computer science, exploring the basics of software development through a variety of programming languages such as HTML, CSS, and Javascript. Students will learn by doing through a variety of hands-on activities including a virtual computer dissection and website application design (such as creating an online game and online store). The course learning will be complemented with guest speakers of Ottawa’s leading tech companies, where students will meet industry professionals.

Those who successfully complete the full course will gain a full credit toward their secondary school diploma.

Required documentation for all courses: When registering for any courses, each student will need to provide the following documents:

their student or personal e-mail address
their legal status in Canada: Canadian citizen, permanent resident, temporary resident, or visitor
proof of age (copy of birth certificate)
proof of grade and school (copy of recent report card)
their Individual Education Plan (IEP), if they have one.

Character Development: This program helps build the following traits

Curiosity: Developing your programming skills is more and more important nowadays. During this course, a variety of programming languages will be explored.
Independence: This course is a combination of Synchronous and Asynchronous work. Therefore, students will develop good working habits, time management skills, and capacity to work on their own or in small groups on projects.
