The Fall Enrichment programs are designed for children who are looking for greater challenges and new ways to stimulate their interest in math. Each group has a different special interest area.

Sections:

  • Grade 1/2: FUNdamentals

A section of Saturday Math Club designed especially for grade 1/2s. Participants will approach fundamental math concepts through a balance of hands-on activities, games, and crafts, and pencil-and-paper math. This program is designed in the same spirit as our other math clubs and summer camps, but tailored to the math skill level of our youngest participants. This program aims to teach and reinforce topics from the grade 1/2 curriculum.

  • Grade 2/3: Math in Nature

In this course we will explore how we can use mathematics to describe nature and animals. From the hexagons on a honeycomb to the spiraling ratios on a pinecone; we will learn about the mathematics in nature. This course will cover topics related to algebra, geometry, probability, and more.

  • Grade 3/4: Math Magic Tricks

Magicians never tell their magic secrets, but math can! In this course, students will explore various types of magic tricks including cards tricks, optical illusions, and mind reading using mathematics. We will cover topics related to foundational algebra, arithmetic and geometry.

  • Grade 5/6: Math in Outer Space - Rocket Science and Space Exploration

Math is not rocket science... or is it? This course will explore the ways math and physics govern how rockets fly and stay in space. From gravitation to orbital mechanics (and more), we will be taking a journey through the vast expanse of space and see just what it takes to be an astronaut!

  • Grade 7/8: Mathematical Game Theory

In this course, we will analyze combinatorial and finite games from the perspective of a mathematician. We will explore various games such as Twenty-One, the Game of Nim and discuss optimal winning strategies for each of the games. Join us to learn more about mathematical games and uncover proofs related to the fundamental theorem of finite games.

  • Grade 9 - 12: Advanced Math Club - Groups, Networks and Codes

The Advanced Math Club is designed for students who are looking for a challenge in mathematics. In this course, you will learn how we can solve hard problems using simple techniques and ideas. We will cover topics in abstract algebra such as groups, graphs and networks and explore fun real-life applications of these topics such as codes. Lastly, we will combine the various topics in unexpected ways to solve seemingly impossible problems with ease.

Advanced Math Club Schedule: Saturdays, 10 AM - 1 PM and 1 PM - 1:15PM (Q&A / Office Hours)
