The Spring Enrichment program is designed for children who are looking for greater challenges and new ways to stimulate their interest in math. Each enrichment course has a different special topic.

Sections:

  • Grade 1/2 Enrichment: Math FUNdamentals

Course Description: A section of Saturday Math Club designed especially for grade 1/2s. Participants will approach fundamental math concepts through a balance of hands-on activities, games, and crafts, and pencil-and-paper math. This program is designed in the same spirit as our other math clubs and summer camps, but tailored to the math skill level of our youngest participants. This program aims to teach and reinforce topics from the grade 1/2 curriculum.

  • Grade 3/4 Enrichment: Math Mysteries

Course Description: In this course, students will focus on using Math to help solve mysteries. Students find themselves working as crime scene investigators: decoding ciphers, navigating maps, deciphering codes, and solving logic puzzles. They will solve these mysteries using topics such as algebra, cryptography, geometry, patterning and more! At the end of the course, the students will participate in a Math themed hunt to put their skills to the ultimate test.

  • Grade 5/6 Enrichment: (Impossible) Math – Logic Defying Paradoxes

Course Description: Discover the puzzling side of math with paradoxes that challenge what you think you know about numbers, logic, and infinity. In this course, students will explore scenarios that seem impossible at first but reveal surprising truths that spark new and curious ways of thinking about math!

  • Grade 7/8 Enrichment: Combinatorial Problem Solving

Course Description: Combinatorics is the branch of mathematics that deals with counting, arrangement, and combination of objects. In this course, we will explore how combinatorial techniques can be applied to solve real-world problems. Each lesson will begin with a thought-provoking problem or puzzle, followed by hands-on activities and interactive games that allow students to discover and apply combinatorial principles. Topics covered will include counting and enumeration, graph theory, and probability.
Grade 5/6 Enrichment: (Impossible) Math – Logic Defying Paradoxes

Course Description: Discover the puzzling side of math with paradoxes that challenge what you think you know about numbers, logic, and infinity. In this course, students will explore scenarios that seem impossible at first but reveal surprising truths that spark new and curious ways of thinking about math!

  • Grade 9/10 Enrichment: Logic, Infinity and Paradoxes

Infinity. Uncertainty. Equally challenging as they are captivating, these notions have puzzled mathematicians and philosophers for centuries. This course will build on mathematical reasoning, problem solving ability and discover the idea of “infinity”. These concepts can be simultaneously confusing and illuminating, and we'll test your limits by engaging with thought-provoking paradoxes. We intend to end with Cantor’s diagonalization argument.
