Students will come to the University of Toronto – St George campus for a week-long day camp. Throughout the week, students will explore various mathematical topics in a fun, interactive, and hands-on way. Each group has a different focus.
Grade 1/2 Math Camp: Mathematics in Puzzles and Games
This camp invites learners to explore the exciting world of mathematics through fun and interactive games. Through puzzles and logic-based games, students will practice basic fundamental operations like counting and pattern recognition, while developing problem-solving skills. Each lesson is designed to engage students’ critical thinking in a fun, hands-on way!
Grade 3/4 Math Camp: Patterns and Geometry - Exploring Triangles in the World Around Us
This camp delves into the fascinating world of triangles around us. From Pascal’s Triangle and the Sierpinski Triangle to the intricate patterns found in tangrams, origami and architecture, students will start to see where triangular patterns show up in our everyday world. Students will explore this phenomena while learning foundational concepts in trigonometry, algebra, geometry and patterning through engaging hands-on activities and interactive projects.
Grade 5/6 Math Camp: A Mission to Mars
Join us for an exciting Mission to Mars! In this camp, we'll explore how we can use math to reach Mars and sustain a colony. Through understanding the mathematics of structural design and spatial reasoning, students will design their own spacecraft and rovers for their own missions while learning about the essential features needed for survival and gathering data about Mars. This camp offers an insightful journey into the challenges and possibilities of space exploration.
Grade 7/8 Math Camp: Math in Game Theory and Board Game Design
In this camp, students will get to create their own board game using math concepts learned in class. Each day, students will learn new math concepts and different ways they apply to logic, strategy and games. Throughout the week, students will refine their games by applying new concepts and rigorously testing their games. By the end of the camp, campers will have developed a comprehensive understanding of game theory and design, and get a chance to play each others' games.
