The Our Kids review of National Yacht Club Sailing & Racing School

    our take

The NYC was founded in 1894, and was first known, charmingly, as the National Yacht and Skiff Club. It’s grown and changed over the years, but throughout has remained a cornerstone of sailing in the city. The location, to be sure, is one of the benefits—accessible by public transportation, it’s also a place of escape, a chance to get away from the bustle of the city and mess about in boats. The club remains an expression of the community it serves, and is also host to a number of annual regattas. When campers arrive, they enter that world—the culture of sailing, the community it represents—and are granted an opportunity to escape within it while also learning essential skills from some of the best. Certified instructors make it fun, active, and exciting, all within the shadow of the Toronto skyline.

    Five-Star Experience

Our daughter really enjoyed the experience of sailing! She quickly got used to sailing, even though it was her first time ever. She appreciated the chance to be with other kids for a while (she is homeschooled right now). All the coaches were really nice and professional. I also want to point out the quick, smooth and professional onboarding process, including filling out forms and checking requirements — every step was clear and simple — we had no issues joining classes. Additionally, I want to share my general five-star experience with the National Yacht Club team and their coaches. We got all our questions answered, and our daughter was always under their careful guidance and supervision. The NYC team members kept tough on safety, and we felt full confidence in our daughter's security. Also, she never complained about her whole day's experience and was never bored. The daily schedule was very comfortable for us to bring her and pick up her back. We highly appreciate your support and the opportunity to sail that you gave us. It was a terrific experience! ... Looking Forward to Next Year!

We wish to take this opportunity to thank you and the Sailing School team for the wonderful fun filled learning experience our grandchildren had over the past two weeks. Myself and their parents were very impressed and grateful with the respect given, safety, professionalism, quality of teaching and kindness of the staff to the kids. It was especially interesting to note how the staff encouraged the kids in self problems solving. A special thank you to their class teacher, she certainly has a natural knack in handling and imparting knowledge to the kids. Their parents are now trying hard to keep up with the nautical terms now being used! I am sure they will be looking forward to next year and number three of six, who was not old enough this year, will want to join in the fun. Many thanks! ... Show More

My son and daughter tried their hand at sailing for the first time, and despite some trepidation in the beginning, they truly enjoyed their time at the NYTC sailing camp. It is the first time they have come home from a camp excited to tell me every detail & asking to participate again next year. They learned valuable lessons in responsibility, working as a team, as well as gained independence & confidence ... Show More
