The Our Kids review of JUMP!

    our take

JUMP! is a program like no other. Off-the-grid, no tech, and completely rustic, JUMP! offers campers the opportunity to get away from today’s distractions and find themselves. Some kids might find this concept scary, and that’s exactly why they should participate. The camp aims to help kids reach their full potential, make new friends, connect with their environment, and experience an adventure that they would never get anywhere else. It all starts on the banks of a small lake, on a 160-acre off-the-grid wilderness camp. Campers are inspired and empowered to realize their potential as leaders through transformational learning and activities where reflection is the key. The program staff lead by example, as they work collaboratively and share their stories of change. Of course, fun still happens and laughing is mandatory at JUMP! The parent and child camps it offers are hugely popular, allowing for a unique bonding experience while campers choose their own adventures all week. JUMP! isn’t just a camp—it’s a life-changing experience for all who attend.

    Strength and confidence!

It will be hard to convey the feelings I had when seeing my son after his time at the Trailblazers camp. Kohei, 15 years old, spent 10 days at JUMP!, 6 days/5 nights of that was in the mountains hiking and camping. What I saw in my son when picking him up was pure happiness and joy. I didn’t see ego, I didn’t see attitude, I didn’t see a chip on his shoulder. I saw strength and confidence and a very caring young man. Children need to be in nature. It’s grounding for them and calming. Being in nature and also having electronic devices taken away gives them space to be children again. What I saw with the kids is that their worries were replaced by playfulness and sparkle. Kohei was vibrating with happiness when I picked him up. He was so proud of an array of things they did at the camp. The connections he made with the other participants so far have continued even though there is a very large distance between us and them. A handful of participants and Kohei message each other on a day-to-day basis with hopes of seeing each other this winter at some point and joining the JUMP! camp again next summer altogether. Upon leaving and high-fiving and hugging all of the camp leaders good bye, Ko asked if he could return in the following weeks to volunteer with some of the upcoming groups. He also said that the 10 day trailblazer camp should have been longer. Those statements are a true testament that whatever JUMP! is doing, they are doing very well ... Show More

    Highlight of the summer!

Jump!'s Camp at the Educo site is the highlight of my daughter's summer. She looks forward to it all year. She loves seeing the familiar faces of kids she's attended with during past camps and is always excited to spend time with her favourite camp counsellors and leaders. My daughter loves the outdoors and the challenges it brings. Between the high ropes course, the overnight camping trip and canoeing adventures, she always pushes herself to go beyond her comfort zone and try it all. When we pick her up from camp, she is beaming with pride from all she's accomplished and excited to share all her adventure and comradery stories. The confidence she has gained from camp carries into her daily life and we see this in her efforts to be a positive member of her school community. She will continue to attend for years to come and we are thrilled such an amazing camp exists and provides such a positive experience for kids. ... Show More

Most talkative he's been in awhile!

Our son had a wonderful time at camp! When I picked him up, it was the most talkative he's been in a while telling me of all his fun adventures. Thank you so much for the amazing time he had and all the organization. He really liked the camp food too! ... Show More

    Shining with achievement!

After chatting with some acquaintances about camps their children had attended, I asked my boys if they were interested in trying a different camp next year. They looked at me with disgust and firmly replied "No way! We are definitely going back to JUMP!" I get welled up just thinking about pick up day. They are so full of pride after a week of pushing their limits. They are shining with achievement as they share heartfelt goodbyes with their new campmates. They start counting down the days to next year's camp on the drive home to Squamish. My boys love the adventure, friendships and shenanigans but I know this camp is so much than that. ... Show More

    Personal growth!

Greeting our sons after completing their summer Jump course at the Educo site has become a highlight for us. They return with newfound confidence, pride, and a sense of accomplishment, both physically and mentally. The ease with which they connect with friends and counselors, and the way they excitedly share their adventures, reflects the personal growth they've experienced. This transformation stays with them throughout the year, reminding them that they can overcome challenges and thrive in a group while staying true to themselves. The most powerful takeaway is witnessing how deeply proud they’ve become of who they are. The magic of the Jump programs lies in the powerful combination of nature, self-reflection, authentic connection and transformative challenges that elevate kids mentally and physically. Our kids returned not only more confident and resilient but with a deeper understanding of their personal importance and role within a diverse group. Without the distractions of devices, they learned to form meaningful bonds with their peers, all while gaining the freedom to both play and reflect seriously on other perspectives. This experience has had a lasting impact, helping them grow in ways that will benefit them for years to come. I highly recommend it! ... Show More

    Positive impact!

"The positive impact of the Pathfinder course has been evident in Simon's behaviour. He is more mature, thoughtful (as in reflective inwardly and outwardly), and communicative. In the 2 weeks since the course, he has managed his emotions and not tantrumed once. He is easier to negotiate with in terms of making agreements about screen time, and getting homework done. He has been loving and appreciative." ... Show More

    • What's our week going to be like?

In response to a student asking what their week at Educo might be like...

Just when you think you might be driving down the wrong gravel road into the middle of nowhere, you see a big sign between two trees and pull into the parking lot of the Educo sitel. You made it!

Taking your bulky backpack and other gear from the trunk, you get to make your first decision of the next few days: you pick your bunk. What looks like rough digs compared to your cozy bed at home will soon appear to be a wonderful simplicity. With so many new faces around you, it’s hard to imagine that in ten days, you’ll feel as if you’ve known these people all your life.

The first afternoon you get to know the site – the lakes, the fields, and the outhouses. As you settle in, you might take a dip in the lake, throw a frisbee, meet a few people and some zany staff. Sounds like a regular camp so far, right? Well, hang on tight. The rest of the course is a ride you won’t soon forget.

The next couple of days are a blur of climbing walls, canoes, and team challenges. By day three, you are already saying to yourself: “I did all that?!” But it isn’t over yet!

The next morning you pack your bags and head off to the mountains for the next two, three or seven days with your group. Hiking through meadows, valleys, and steep hills, you make it to new heights. As a team, you summit a peak with your group: the 360 degree views are a feast for your eyes and the wind is fresh and wild! You get the chance to see new parts of this world and maybe even some new sides of yourself. Again, you are saying to yourself, “I did all that?”

You arrive back at the Educo site, your instructor honking happily as your van pulls into the driveway. Welcomed back excitedly by other staff and students, this place that once seemed foreign starts to feel like home now. And after a week in the mountains, those outhouses are looking luxurious!

You take some time to clean your gear and yourself, maybe with a dip in the lake. When you emerge, you put on your best digs (or cleanest clothes at least) and there is a delicious graduation dinner prepared for you to celebrate all that you’ve accomplished over the week!

As the last evening plays out, you take some time to gather your thoughts on all the new things you just experienced. It becomes clear that you did something truly amazing beyond words and pictures. You did it. You had an experience that was more than just fun; it was inspiring, adventurous, and empowering, and more than likely you learned something about yourself along the way.

The final morning, Educo is a bustling place as parents pull up in the driveway. You rush out to the parking lot to give your family a hug, glowing with rejuvenation from your week. Your parents are ushered into the Rec Hall where your Open House begins. It’s time to share some stories from your week and what you’ve learned about yourself and your peers with your family. With butterflies in your belly, you stand up proudly to share all that you accomplished and the magic of Educo.

It’s time to go. You hug your new best friends and wave goodbye, with promises to keep in touch, as you head off down the gravel road to town.
