Welcome to Camp Tournesol!

Camp Tournesol is a French language summer camp that focuses on fun, while meeting campers where they are in their French proficiency – from just beginning, to fully fluent. We’re here to foster a lifelong love of the language, while having an amazing time at summer camp!

Amazing Themes Each Week
Summer camp 2025 features 4 themes, each running twice:

Harry Potter Wizarding World: June 30, July 2-4 & July 28-Aug. 1 - Witches, wizards & muggles – if you love the Wizarding World, these weeks are for you!

Rock Star Boot Camp: July 7-11 & August 5-8 - Calling all future rock stars: live out your music dreams of stage stardom in our Rock Star themed weeks!

Barbie's Dream World: July 14-18 & August 11-15 - Barbie can be anything, and in these camp weeks, Barbie’s Dream World will come to life!

Pokemon Madness: July 21-25 & Aug 18-22 - Gotta catch ’em all with Ash, Pikachu & the crew during our Pokemon Madness weeks! 

Ages 4-16, Divided in 3 Streams
At Camp Tournesol, we work to nurture a lifelong love of French, no matter where your camper is in their French language journey! You have the option to register your camper in one of three streams, depending on their age and current French background:

French Foundations (4-12 years): Is your camper not in a French immersion program and/or you don’t speak French at home, but you still want them to build vocabulary and skills? Foundations is for them!  

French Mastery (4-12 years): If your camper is in a French immersion program or you speak French at home, and you’d like them to build fluency and proficiency, our Mastery stream is the perfect choice. 

Counsellor-in-Training (12-16 years): Older campers seeking French fluency while developing leadership skills in a fun and supportive environment will love our Counsellor-in-Training (CIT) program.

Unique, Inclusive Approach

We are driven to create a French summer camp experience for all campers that is defined by:

• Having Fun: Learning is play at Camp Tournesol! This is summer break after all, and we want campers to enjoy themselves. 
• Speaking French: We’re here to improve our French, so we speak as much as possible (sometimes only French!) throughout our entire day.
• Offering Challenge Without Frustration: We encourage French learning and proficiency, but are mindful of avoiding frustration in the process.
• Leaving Better Than You Came: We help all campers improve upon whatever French abilities they joined us with, wherever they start.
• Fostering a Lifelong Love of French: What a joy to be able to speak another language! We work to show how fun this special and valuable skill really is.
• Inclusion: Children of all backgrounds and French abilities are welcome and celebrated at Camp Tournesol.

Fun Activities
Every single activity campers do at Camp Tournesol, no matter which stream they are in, puts them in a different vocabulary and situational context. They learn new, practical French words related to what they’re about to do, and then spend time using those words in conversation. At the end of the activity, at the end of the day, and at the end of the week, we review those words in ways that just feel like fun and chatting – and never like school!
