July or August JRC Programs - 4 weeks

CAN-AQUA COUNSELLOR IN TRAINING PROGRAM (JRC)
• Participants must be 16 years of age by December 31st of the upcoming camping season and hold current Bronze Cross (International candidates are exempt)

The Can-Aqua JRC Program marks the beginning step in a transition from a camper to a leader. This program is one month in duration and is available during July or August Camp each year. JRC's reside in their own cabins with two full-time CIT Directors who work with candidates and lead each training group.
The focus of the JRC program is to develop and enhance the soft skills of exceptional leadership. Candidates will also work daily on completing their National Lifeguarding Level (NLS).
Throughout their month at camp, JRC's will balance skill development, with program implementation, advanced trip skills and cabin based leadership. In addition to their own skill development, they will also represent Can-Aqua as Leadership Ambassadors, spending up to 4 days touring partnering Ontario Summer Camps and engaging with other Leadership groups.

A typical day for a JRC will involve Kindred Sessions including the following:

o Working within a team
o Ages and Stages
o Role Modeling
o Risk Management
o Developing a community with campers
o Sensitive Issues
o Leadership Style/Sigma Leadership
o Health and Safety when in the lead
o Active Listening & Communication Skills
o Acceptability and Integration

Can-Aqua JRC Trip
This five/six-day trip challenges each participant providing them with an opportunity to organize and implement one day of their journey. The JRC outtrip location varies by year between Algonquin Park and Kilarney. A JRC Director supervises each trip group with the support of an alumni staff person.

Highlights to this 4-week program include a multi day camp tour and discussion with other leadership programs, the opportunity to plan and implement full camp programs and the responsibility and management of the renowned “Can-Aqua Games” at the end of the month.
