Sailing on the TS Playfair with BRIGS is an experience like no other. From the moment you step onboard, you are a member of the crew. An active and thrilling experience from day one, from hauling on the lines, to steering the ship, you are vital. Onboard, you will learn that teamwork is an essential part of life, as every effort onboard the TS Playfair is a team effort.

A normal day onboard is more than just sailing! Activities during your voyage will include swimming, singing, campfires, and exploring ports and anchorages throughout Ontario

By the end of the voyage, you will know the fundamentals of how to sail a Tall Ship and be certified as a BRIGS "lead hand'.

Step up to the challenge and join our crew!

Great Lakes Hopper

June 29 - July 11                                             Toronto - Port Elgin                                            $3000 + HST

Get ready for an incredible, jam-packed adventure from Toronto to Port Elgin! Start off next to a whole fleet of amazing tall ships who are just leaving the Toronto Tall Ships Festival. After that, sail from Lake Ontario to Lake Erie through the eight massive locks of the Welland Canal, zip across Lake Erie, then navigate by buoy through the St.Clair river.

Finish your voyage out on the beautiful beaches of Port Elgin - some of the loveliest beaches in Lake Huron, and some would say, Canada. This voyage includes three different Great Lakes!

Mission To Manitoulin

July 13 - July 26                                               Port Elgin - Tobermory                                                $3250 +HST

Set sail from Port Elgin to explore some of the North Channel’s hidden gems while learning how to sail and work with your new shipmates. In addition to stunning destinations such as Lake Topaz and Bridal Veil Falls, this area has some of the best sailing grounds in Ontario. Next, we’ll sail south across Georgian Bay, trading windswept pines and campfires for Tobermory ice cream

Bayhave Yourself

July 28 - Aug 8                                             Tobermory - Collingwood                                            $2750 + HST

Set off from Tobermory and see where the wind takes us on this voyage across Georgian Bay. Whether the rocky inlets of the 30 000 islands or open water sailing up the coast of the Bruce Peninsula, you will learn the ropes and how the wind and weather to influences our course. Enjoy sailing by the stars, sunrises and sunsets, and swimming off the ship on hot days.

Maritime Milestones

August 11 - August 15                                           Collingwood to Midland                                                $1000 + HST

Departing from Collingwood, we head into the blue waters of Georgian Bay. Learn the ropes and admire the stars as we sail along the rocky coastline. It's a shorter voyage, but you'll still get a taste of adventure: night watch, swimming, ship's concert, climbing the rigging, and steering the ship!

Back over the Bruce

August 17 - August 23                                   Midland - Kincardine                                             $1500 + HST

Join us for an epic adventure on our last crossing of Georgian Bay. Visit the islands and hidden gems of the North Channel or Tobermory before crossing back into Lake Huron to experience open water sailing. The voyage ends with a warm welcome at the Marine Heritage festival in beautiful Kincardine.

Leaving Lake Huron

August 25 - September 1                                        Kincardine - Colborne                                                 $1750 + HST

Finish out the summer in the most epic way and roll into the next school year tanned and proud of yourself. Heading out from Kincardine, we’ll set sail to head south towards the mouth of the St. Clair river. After a few days out on the open lake with a few stops at ports along the eastern coast, we’ll take on the St. Clair river. Learn to navigate the seaway as we pass below impressive illuminated bridges and salute the cargo ships that pass us by. Finally as we exit the Detroit River - our sights set on the quaint town of Port Colborne, home of our favorite pie shop.

Character Development: This program helps build the following traits

  • Resilience: Working and living in close quarters in all weather conditions is a unique experience. Our crew develop resilience as they work to adapt to and overcome the challenges of life onboard.
  • Interpersonal skills: All hands on deck! Sailing a tall ship on the Great Lakes requires coordination and communication. Living in tight quarters requires finding ways to appreciate one another, be patient with one another, and connect with new people.
