Tennis lessons are a great way for children to learn fundamentals. At beginner stages, children learn how to serve, some basic strokes, footwork, and aiming before moving onto more complex game play. Children are also educated on tennis rules and etiquette.
Tennis lessons teach children good sportsmanship whether they win or lose. In singles practice and play, kids improve individual skills, while doubles play challenges students to work with teammates’ strengths. Tennis lessons challenge children to improve fitness, as kids run across the court during warm-ups and games.
Typically, tennis lessons are divided into beginner, intermediate, and advanced sections. In some cases above, children will have to try out for house or competitive leagues to be matched with an instructor. Some tennis lessons are priced per lesson, starting as low as $30 per lesson. More advanced programs range from $200 to $450 or more.
Amongst tennis lessons options for your son or child, you’ll find a mix of private and group lessons. In private classes, instructors work closely with individual students to improve skills, while group lessons permit children to interact with and play matches with a variety of kids their own age. Private lessons are also a bigger financial investment, however, children advance more quickly, of course. In some examples above, they can receive professional-level training.
There’s also a choice between competitive and recreational training. Students have the choice to train in a higher level of tennis, in which tactical, physical, and fundamental tennis skills are challenged to improve. Competitive training, although more of a commitment, is a great way for kids to meet tennis players across the country. Recreational lessons are more focused on fun, while also including training in essential tennis skills.
Tennis challenges children. Here’s a brief glance at benefits kids and teens gain from tennis programs:
