The Our Kids review of Studio PAVAS

    our take

Now into its third decade, Studio Pavas has an impressive history of offering high-quality arts programs. The environment is very much that of a arts institution, where kids enter an environment that is well-equipped and staffed, but also reflects the culture of the arts. The programs are as strong as they are varied, staffed by instructors who are all very impressively qualified. They are able to communicate their passion, as well as provide a window on the wider world of professional arts, dance, and performance.

What's unique about the program at Studio PAVAS that made you want to enroll your child there?

The overall program that they offered for summer camp was unique in giving my daughter an opportunity to try something new. We've never done dance before, and their day program covered a variety of different activities.

Was this your children's first experience with camp?

This was our first time putting her in summer day camp for a whole week. Comparing it to other camps we did last summer, this one was the best overall. Considering the circumstances of COVID, we felt totally comfortable. We knew that she was in a safe environment. The team there was really caring. I knew she was in good, capable hands. She came home every day excited, and enthusiastic. There was always something happening. There were activities planned throughout the entire day.

We were really happy overall with her week there. We only signed up for one week, since it was our first time trying out a camp and we weren't sure what to expect or how she would react.

We ended up signing up for three additional weeks, actually, last summer. And she really enjoyed it in terms of the structure and how the day goes.

Was there any change or noticeable personal growth in your child after time at camp?

This was a great experience for her. It exposed her to dance. Before she was just dancing around the house.

It really improved her confidence! In one week, the kids learn a dance routine. They tape it and send it home. She's so proud of her accomplishment in terms of learning a new routine. She shared it with her grandparents.

She’s already naturally outgoing, but in the friendly, safe environment there, she made lots of new friends. We did sign up throughout the year for dance class. So I guess it was a win-win for everybody.

Overall, it helped her confidence, to bring her out of her shell, to present in front of somebody, to dance in front of other people. It's important for kids to have confidence, to public speak, and to reach out and meet people. The camp helped her throughout the week that she did the dance class, to bring her out of her shell.

How can you as a parent support your child to get the most out of this camp?

Encourage your child to explore new things. There are so many different things to learn! If your child demonstrates a passion for something… that’s why we decided to do the dance camp: she's dancing and prancing around the house. You really want to try it for a week. It doesn't hurt.

Encourage your kids to try something different. The dance camp helped her explore dance, to say, “Yeah, I like it! I think I'd like to do some dance lessons.”  If you like it, we can sign up for more, and if you don't, then we won't do anymore. But she ended up loving it. You never know what's going to come of it and you never know what hidden talents they have as well.

What does your child say about the camp, either to you or that you may have heard them say to friends or others?

The fun aspect. She found that everybody there was nice, and caring. The team, Susan and Brandon make it a very safe and fun environment for the kids. They learn all the kids’ names. She feels a part of the family there. The teachers are very warm.

She only ever has positive fun things to say about the camp after all the weeks she was there. She enjoyed all the teachers. I've never heard her say anything negative.

She's always excited. You say, “Do you want to do another week?” And it's like, yes. That's a good sign, when your child says that and wants to go again.

    Final thoughts?

If you’re new to Studio PAVAS, I'd say give it a try. It's a great camp. I'd strongly recommend them. So go for it.
