(5) Overall experience

Both my children had a really great time at Run The Flex. The instructors were fun, engaging, and helpful, and the activities during the summer camp were educational and unique. My daughters love to dance, and my eldest who attended the summer camp was so excited to take part in the showcase at the end of the week. She didn't want to leave when I came to pick her up! This experience was great for both my children as they had an opportunity to burn energy in a fun, safe, and supportive environment. In particular, my eldest daughter showed signs of a clear confidence boost. It was most difficult for my younger daughter to engage just given her age and separation anxiety but Zoe was very accommodating and understanding and let her big sister go into the studio with her for the first part of the session to ease the transition. 5 stars!! I would definitely send my kids back to this camp in the future because I feel passionately about exposing them to the arts and hip-hop culture. I also love to support local, small businesses that prioritize building community and listening to their customers/participants and that is RTF 100%.

(5) Reason for choosing the camp

I started attending classes at RTF first and then when I saw the opportunity to enroll my kids I jumped at the opportunity. The location is fairly central and easy to access, the staff is wonderful, and they wanted to take dance. No hidden costs that I wasn't expecting and the experience was definitely worth the investment.

(5) Program quality and activities

The camp itinerary was provided in advance and totally matched my expectations and my children's interests. My daughter particularly enjoyed the graffiti lesson but she reported loving all the activities and had great things to say about the curriculum. I think that the variety of instructors that RTF brought in offered different skills and strengths and they utilized them well.

(5) Social dynamics and experience

My daughter strengthened an existing friendship because she enrolled with someone that she already knew. I know that she got along with other participants while she was there and never reported, and issues with any of the other kids. There were no bullying or inclusion-related issues as far as I'm aware of, and I have faith that the instructors would have handled it well and informed me if there were any problems.

(5) Skills and growth

My child gained knowledge about hip-hop culture, techniques for creating graffiti art, practice with rhyming/beat boxing, and much more. She had the opportunity to engage with other kids and collaborate with others throughout the week. I know she was challenged by the routine that they showcased at the end of the week - but in a good way!

(5) Staff/Instructors/Counsellors

All the instructors at the summer camp greeted participants with big smiles and an enthusiastic attitude. They seemed to get along and work well with one another which provided a good example for the kids to emulate. The staff communicated with parents at drop-off if there was information to share and were more than happy to converse at the end of the day to provide feedback and extra insight if asked. I did not experience any conflicts so cannot speak to that. When my younger daughter had an issue with participating we decided that she was a bit too young to continue at this time and the management team was very responsive and helpful, providing credit for myself or my other daughter to use in lieu of having my youngest continue with the program when she was having some separation anxiety issues. I would totally enroll her again when she's a bit older and more independent!

(5) Advice and tips

Go check out the space yourself! It's a really welcoming studio. Take a class, talk to the receptionist, ask management who the camp instructors will be, and look them up! I knew everything I needed to before sending my child to the camp but if I hadn't, I know that the management team would respond to my email in a timely manner to fill in the gaps.
