(5) Overall experience

Our daughters love this summer camp. We first attended in the summer of '23, then again in '24 and we've already signed up for 2025. They offer a positive and fun atmosphere where kids are encouraged to try new sports. From the moment we arrive in the morning, we're greeted with cheerful, energetic counselors who develop such great bonds with the kids. We attend for 5-6 weeks every summer and the kids never complain about the program being stale or lacking variety - the staff does an excellent job of making each week fun with new activities. The communication is excellent and the entire staff is welcoming and inclusive.

(5) Reason for choosing the camp

At first, we were attracted to the location because it was so close to home, but then found that the cost was very competitive with other camps. Our kids were also excited about spending most of their summer outdoors and trying some new sports and activities. Everything relating to cost was completely upfront and there were no hidden costs.

(5) Program quality and activities

For younger kids, the itinerary keeps things fun and helps them build some leadership and team play fundamentals. Our youngest daughter really enjoys all the different water activities they participate in. Our eldest daughter is beginning to focus on a couple of specific sports (volleyball and basketball) and kids her age can choose a couple of sports to focus on each week, so she really enjoyed that, while also continuing to work on dance which is also part of the itinerary.

(5) Social dynamics and experience

Our eldest daughter met a lot of new friends and has maintained contact with them post-camp. Our youngest daughter is a little more shy but also has developed some ongoing friendships with campers who returned in the 2nd year. The counselors do an excellent job of getting everyone involved and working together. We also bump into counselors around our neighbourhood quite frequently and they always have a warm greeting for our girls.

(5) Skills and growth

Our eldest daughter really picked up a lot from the dance classes. The dancing on its own is enjoyable for her, but the counselor(s) really makes the class fun and brings kids out of their comfort zone. Our youngest really learned how much fun it is to work as part of a team and her leadership qualities have really started to come out.

(5) Staff/Instructors/Counsellors

We haven't experienced any sort of conflict in the 2 summers we've spent at Rouge. There have been a couple of bumps or scratches which happens when kids are playing outdoors, but nothing at all serious and the staff are great about telling us what happened and how they treated it. It's always easy to get ahold of someone at the camp and they send out a feedback survey after each week, so hearing from families is important to them.

(5) Advice and tips

I recommend this camp to anyone who asks. We have referred a few families already and a few have already expressed interest for next year. Our biggest concern with summer camp was the safety of our daughters and this camp has given us peace of mind while also keeping our girls active and happy throughout the summer. I have yet to hear any negative feedback on this camp from any other parent.
