Thank you for your interest in Rouge Camps. They will be in touch with you shortly.
Our son's overall experience at Rouge Camp was fantastic. He really looked forward to going to camp each morning and was excited to see his counselors and friends. Each day was well planned out and had different themes/focus which really excited our son about the day ahead. The communication between the camp/counselors and parents was spot on. Each day we would get feedback at pick-up and the daily email newsletters are also great. We will definitely be sending our son back to Rouge Camp next summer as he had such an enjoyable experience this year.
We chose this camp as our friends had sent their children to Rouge Camp last summer and they highly recommended it. We also liked that it was teacher-led and that the counselors for the 4- to 5-year-old age group were either ECE or in teachers' college. That gave us peace of mind regarding the overall well-being and safety of our child each day.
The program has a great variety of both sports as well as arts and crafts/games for the campers, which is a nice balance. Our son never complained that he was bored at camp. I think overall the sports focus of the camp is important but not everything - not overly competitive, but just a lot of fun and a great learning experience for the campers. Our son was really excited to share that he played floor hockey for the first time and scored a goal! He also would talk about the different sports they played that day like soccer or the relay races! He also loved the water play Fridays, definitely the highlight of the week!
Our son made lots of new friends but also fostered some existing friendships with children that he goes to school with. Our son did not experience any bullying but I know there was an issue with another group at the camp but it was addressed quickly with an email that went out to all parents which I really appreciated. I felt like we always knew about what was going on at the camp.
Attending camp each day fostered our son's outgoing personality and we could also see his confidence grow. He became more independent over the course of the summer and I believe that being at camp each day helped him with that. It was an added bonus that he got exposure to different sports and activities that he may not have had an opportunity to explore at school.
As mentioned already - the communication between the camp and parents is fantastic. Each day there is a newsletter recapping the day including photos. Also, any email correspondence with the office is addressed almost immediately which is very appreciated. Also, if there was anything coming up for the next day they would be sure to notify you either at pick-up or via email. Our son absolutely loved all his counselors and they were also fantastic with us, very communicative, and friendly and I felt safe leaving our son with them each day.
If you are looking for a well-balanced day camp experience for your child then Rouge Camp is a perfect place. Although it is a sports camp each day really is filled with enough activities to keep your child interested and active for the summer. The staff is very caring and the culture of the camp is very community-focused and really all about giving the kids the best summer experience.
Our daughters love this summer camp. We first attended in the summer of '23, then again in '24 and we've already signed up for 2025. They offer a positive and fun atmosphere where kids are encouraged ...
