The Our Kids review of Royal City Soccer Camps

    our take

Royal City Soccer Camp is the largest grassroots summer soccer day camp in Canada. Their aim is to provide the best possible camp experience while teaching soccer skills, along with important life skills. Families are treated like “royalty” and given camp gear, a soccer ball, and a medal at the end of the program. Kids get into the fun by personalizing their gear with their friends. Fifteen hours of soccer instruction is the norm, including individual skill development, team building, and mini cups. Counselors are highly-motivated and active, always engaging the kids in some way. Many campers become volunteers at the camp in their teen years. For those who are new to camp or don’t want to spend the day, morning sessions are available and the best way for kids to start slowly at camp. At the end of the day kids are completely worn out—which means it was a day well spent at camp.

    First timer

This was my son’s first time at camp. As a first-timer at the age of 5 I was nervous about how he’d react. He loved it! Couldn’t wait to go back every day and it tuckered him out! Win win.”

    • Full Day Sessions

Our FULL DAY SESSIONS are the most popular but have limited capacity. Full day sessions combine the soccer focus in the morning sessions (daily warm up, individual skill development, fun team games, soccer scrimmages and mini-Royal Cups), with an afternoon session full of more traditional camp games and a possible recreational swim (where available).

Morning sessions are taught in an average group ratio of 10 campers to 1 staff member (younger campers will have smaller ratios) while afternoon sessions consist of a much smaller supervision ratio, especially in the pool. During the afternoon portion, campers will play various camp games and enjoy a leisure swim at the nearby pool for approximately an hour (some locations may not swim every day). During the afternoon leisure swim, our campers are fully supervised by camp staff and pool lifeguards in accordance with the ratios and regulations.

      Please note:

      • There are limited spaces available for full day sessions to ensure supervision ratios are safe and meet the pool regulations.
      • In some locations, children aged 5-7 (inclusive) may not be able to register for full day sessions due to extremely restrictive pool ratios.
      • If your camper is participating in the afternoon swim, these ratios are much lower as we are required to meet or exceed the local pool’s regulations for supervision ratios.
      • In most pools, swim tests are conducted by local pool lifeguards.  If your camper does not pass the swim test, their swim may be subject to pool restrictions including limited swim time due to rotating swim in the pool. If you have any swim concerns, speak to your onsite Supervisor or contact us at 1-800-427-0536.
      • It is important to note there is no soccer instruction in the afternoon sessions.  Soccer specific activities may or may not be played in the afternoons due to weather and other factors.

Programming for full day sessions is subject to change depending on Public Health recommendations and restrictions.

    • Morning Sessions

Our morning sessions are geared towards campers/families who just want a half day program and prefer a soccer focus. These sessions consist primarily of learning and playing soccer including: a daily warm up, individual skill development, fun team games, soccer scrimmages and mini-Royal Cups. These morning sessions are coached and supervised by our staff in an approximately 10 campers to 1 staff member environment (younger campers will have smaller ratios). Campers are grouped and coached by age, size and ability where possible.

All children aged 5 to 13 of any skill level, from never playing before to competitive rep players, are welcome to register.  For older competitive rep players, please contact us regarding your soccer expectations at camp.

We recognize that many of our campers attend for multiple weeks of camp, we accommodate this by introducing weekly themes and vary up the games and skill exercises. Morning sessions run from 9am to 12noon with drop off from 8:30-9am and pick up from 12-12:30pm (extended care hours available for purchase).

Programming for morning sessions is subject to change depending on Public Health recommendations and restrictions.

    • Beating the heat...

Every afternoon, we beat the heat by splashing around in our nearby pool for a couple of hours. This is the time for unstructured play with new camp friends and staff.  The pool lifeguarding staff, as well as, our own staff supervise all swims.

    • Welcoming environment...

€The enthusiasm of all the staff created a very welcoming environment for my son. It was well organized and friendly. I will definitely enroll my son in future years. Thank you for all the great work!

    • Great rapport with children...

My children love this camp! After attending a week of half days, they both asked to go back for another week, of full days. The counsellors have a great rapport with the children and are very enthusiastic. Both boys enjoyed the soccer emphasis. Keep up the great work!

    • Keep up the great work...

€My daughter continues to love this camp. She has learned useful soccer skills, has made new friends, really respects and likes the staff and enjoys the variety of activities, especially swimming in the hot afternoon. Continue to have this excellent program and keep up your great work!
