(5) Overall experience
We have now been part of Prep Academy tutors for 4 years and plan to keep going.
Both kids very much enjoy and look forward to their sessions with their tutors. We have now gone through several different instructors, however, all of them have been fantastic to work with, and just seem to keep getting better and better.
Having the kids in French Immersion is a choice that I made, so I want to make sure they are given all the support they need to excel, with Prep I believe they will.
(5) Reason for choosing the program
We began the program during Covid as we felt like there was lots lacking in the online learning that the kids were experiencing. The kids responded very well and were often very excited to start their sessions. Not once have they complained. We soon realized that this was a wonderful adjunct, and were very happy to keep going with it.
(5) Program quality and activities
The tutors seem to work very well with our kids. It always amazes me when they start their conversations, typically in French as both kids are in French immersion and then just keep going. the level of education, professionalism, and overall satisfaction with the teachers has been very high.
They cater each session around the work that is needed. If not much to do, they keep the kids engaged through games like Wordle, Nerdle, etc. This is great as I believe that critical thinking is very important!
(5) Social dynamics and experience
I always feel like the more positive role, models and teachers that kids have in their lives the better. Allowing them to have conversations with someone who is trustworthy and will offer some advice and who isn’t necessarily a parent is often very important for kids. I feel like with all of the tutors, they could tell them if they were having issues and would get support. At this time they just haven’t needed that kind of support.
(5) Skills and growth
Both kids are excelling at school, and I largely thank this program for helping us with the support that they needed. Although I too have had a French immersion education, it was many years ago. The kids' level of learning now exceeds what I am able to assist with so I feel like having this adjunct to their education has been essential and very positive.
(5) Staff/Instructors/Counsellors
We have been very fortunate to have always had French-speaking tutors available for our kids. The lesson notes that are sent each week allow me to have a grasp on their education and to know if there are areas for growth.
The staff and tutors are all Very kind, knowledgeable, flexible and amazing all around. You know there is a good leader as the level of tutors is very high!
(5) Advice and tips
Keep up the great work. Continue bringing in more French teachers so there is a good pool to choose from.
Perhaps consider having the tutors work in teams so that if one is not available the other can step in? Just a thought, very rarely needed but would be nice to have the option.
