Pedalheads Trail levels - Ontario Camps in Toronto, Don Mills, East York, Etobicoke, The Beaches, and Ottawa

Kids have so much fun trail riding because they go on an adventure through varied paths in nature! Depending on the camp, kids could be riding along a river and through beautiful forests with a group in a safe and supervised environment.

Our Pedalheads Trail program focuses on the development of various trail-riding skills for kids ages 4 to 8. We have an intermediate level for kids ages 9 to 12 too.

Trail 1 - Intro to Trail (ages 4+)

Focused on FUN and EXPLORATION, these campers will get to explore nearby local areas by riding along various bike paths and trails. Campers will be introduced to riding on different surfaces and develop their skills, such as steering, control and riding in a group.  Campers will also learn about trail etiquette, how to bike safely and develop their stamina throughout the week.

To register for this trail, kids must already be 4 years old.

Skills developed include:

  • Ride independently
  • Start pedaling on first try
  • Stop without skidding

Trail 2 - Bike Control (ages 7+)

In this trail, we GET GOING on the trails! Campers will ride on a variety of surfaces, develop their skills going up and down hills using their gears and brakes effectively, learn about trail etiquette, and be safely introduced to minor features depending on what is available in your area (ie. roots, small rocks).

To register in this trail, kids must be turning 7 by the end of the calendar year.

Skills developed include:

  • Must be able to use front & back hand brakes
  • Can currently ride 5kms on easy trails

Trail 3 - Intro to Obstacles (ages 7+)

In this trail, campers get to ADVENTURE by tackling local trails! The focus will be to practice the skills to safely ready campers for riding intermediate trails in your area and ensure campers know proper trail etiquette. This will include developing skills such as a camper’s comfort riding on various surfaces, basic cornering and pumping, obstacle and hazard dodging, uphill and downhill riding, introducing small features, and going on longer rides all while being safe.

To register for this trail, kids must already be 7 years old and it is recommended that kids first complete Trail 2.

Skills developed include:

  • Can ride 10km comfortably
  • A desire to be exposed to small features and uneven terrain (roots & rocks)

Trail 4 - Technical Riding (ages 9+)

In this level, campers SHRED the trails and must be comfortable with bike handling skills that will allow them to safely focus on developing intermediate mountain bike techniques. They will be gaining confidence by tackling technical trails, both up and down, ladder bridges and other small to medium features. We will ensure campers continuously gain trail etiquette knowledge and ride within their limits.

To register for this level, kids must already be 9 years old. We strongly suggest that campers complete Level 3 Trail before this level (or have been exposed to easy small features and basic intermediate terrain).

Skills developed include:

  • Can ride 10km comfortably
  • A desire to be exposed to small features and uneven terrain (roots & rocks)
