Unleash your creativity and explore how cities come to life with Urban Design, an exciting ESL camp designed for teens aged 13-15! Through hands-on projects, interactive lessons, and real-world field trips around Vancouver, campers will dive into the fascinating world of architecture, sustainability, transportation, and community planning. Along the way, they’ll develop their English language skills through discussions, presentations, and collaborative activities focused on designing the cities of the future.

What to Expect:

  • Day 1: What Makes a City?
Explore the building blocks of urban design, from streets and buildings to public spaces and community hubs. Campers will brainstorm what makes a city vibrant and livable, then sketch their own dream city, presenting their ideas to the class.
  • Day 2: Green Spaces and Sustainability
Learn why parks, gardens, and green roofs are essential for healthy cities. Campers will visit a local botanical garden or park to explore sustainable urban design in action. Back in the classroom, they’ll create presentations on how to make cities more eco-friendly.
  • Day 3: Transportation and Infrastructure
Dive into how people move through cities—by bus, train, bike, or car! Campers will create Google Map travel plans, practice buying tickets and ordering Ubers in English, and explore how transportation systems shape urban life.
  • Day 4: Community and Public Spaces
Discover how public spaces like markets, plazas, and playgrounds bring people together. Campers will visit a local community space, observe what makes it special, and present their findings in class using the past tense.
  • Day 5: Urban Design Projects
Put your knowledge to the test by designing your own ideal city! Campers will collaborate on urban design projects, incorporating everything they’ve learned about sustainability, transportation, and community spaces. The week wraps up with a final presentation where campers showcase their innovative city designs.
