ESL: Our Community

Step into the heart of your neighborhood with Our Community, an engaging ESL camp designed for young learners aged 7-9! Throughout this interactive week, campers will explore what makes a community thrive, meet the people who keep it running, and learn how they can contribute to making it even better. With fun activities, creative projects, and exciting field trips, campers will build their English skills while gaining a deeper appreciation for the world around them.

What to Expect:

• Day 1: Introduction to Our Community: What is a community? Campers will explore this question through storytelling, drawing, and a local walking tour. They’ll create personalized maps and learn vocabulary related to neighborhoods and landmarks.
• Day 2: People in Our Community: Meet the everyday heroes! Campers will learn about community helpers like firefighters, teachers, and doctors. A field trip to a local fire station will bring their learning to life, and they’ll practice interviewing each other about different jobs.
• Day 3: Community Landmarks: What makes a community unique? Campers will discover important buildings and places in their neighborhood, followed by a visit to a local landmark. They’ll create presentations about famous landmarks from their home countries.
• Day 4: Community Events and Traditions: Celebrate what brings people together! Campers will learn about local festivals and traditions, design event posters, and share stories of celebrations from their own cultures, all while practicing English vocabulary and tenses.
• Day 5: Making Our Community Better: It’s time to dream big! Campers will brainstorm ideas for improving their community, design projects, and present their proposals to the class, practicing their speaking and presentation skills.
