Join My Family and Friends, an engaging Mandarin language camp designed for learners aged 9-12! Through interactive activities, role-play, games, and cultural exploration, campers will develop essential Mandarin vocabulary while learning to talk about their families, friends, and emotions. With a blend of hands-on projects and outdoor fun, this camp offers the perfect mix of language learning and creative expression.

What to Expect:

  • Meeting My Family: Campers will be introduced to essential family vocabulary, including “妈妈 (māma – mom),” “爸爸 (bàba – dad),” and “家 (jiā – home).” Activities include singing “我爱我的家 (Wǒ ài wǒ de jiā – I Love My Family),” drawing and labeling a family tree, and role-playing family activities like “妈妈做饭 (Mom is cooking).”
  • My Friends and Me: Campers will learn to introduce themselves and others using pronouns like “我 (wǒ – I),” “你 (nǐ – you),” and “朋友 (péngyou – friend).” They’ll participate in role-playing games, make friendship bracelets while practicing phrases like “你是我的朋友 (Nǐ shì wǒ de péngyou – You are my friend),” and engage in fun matching activities.
  • Counting My Family: Campers will learn numbers “一 (1)” to “五 (5)” and practice saying ages using “岁 (suì – years old).” Activities include counting family members in photos, playing number bingo, and creating a “family age chart” to practice new vocabulary in a fun, interactive way.
  • Feelings and Greetings: Campers will explore vocabulary related to emotions and greetings, such as “你好 (nǐ hǎo – hello),” “再见 (zàijiàn – goodbye),” and “开心 (kāixīn – happy).” Activities include acting out emotions, making emotion masks, and practicing greetings with partners.
  • Family Skit and Cultural Share: To wrap up the week, campers will prepare and perform short skits introducing their family members, using all the vocabulary and phrases they’ve learned. They’ll also explore Chinese family culture, including respect for elders, and create personalized photo frames labeled with Mandarin terms.
  • Field Trip: Campers will visit the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden to immerse themselves in Chinese culture and traditions. This serene and beautiful setting provides the perfect backdrop for learning about Chinese family values, taking part in cultural discussions, and practicing Mandarin vocabulary in a real-world environment.
