Little Kitchen Academy is the premier Montessori-inspired cooking academy for children ages 3-18. LKA provides a safe and empowering environment to learn practical life skills, confidence, independence, and healthy eating habits to last a lifetime. Our 3-hour classes are held weekly during the school year with daily classes available as camps in the spring, summer and winter.

Programs, Rates & Dates

Programs and Sessions Calendar

3-hour cooking classes developed to teach practical life skills and food literacy. Children work independently and learn to cook food from scratch. Each student puts on a chef's coat and will gather their own ingredients from the pantry or living food wall. Instructors guide them through unique cooking techniques and they have a wide range of tools at their own workstation including their own oven, cooktop and KitchenAid mixer. Food is enjoyed together at the ChopValue community table made of recycled chopsticks. All students are also provided a token at the end of class worth $1 that they make choose to donate to one of our three charity partners teaching them Care of Self, Care of Others, Care of Environment.

Registration Details

Seasonal enrollment is released on an ongoing basis. Currently available classes can be found at littlekitchenacademy.com. Spring, Summer and Winter camps tend to fill quickly with only ten spots available per class so sign up for email updates to be the first to know when new classes are released before they are available on the website.

The Our Kids review of Little Kitchen Academy

Kids who enjoy helping in the kitchen will love the programs at Little Kitchen Academy. More than just basic cooking lessons, kids here learn valuable skills that will take their food from toddler to master chef. Kids work in a clean and equipped industrial kitchen wearing chef’s uniforms, making this much more official and magical. Owners Nicholas and Angela Popoff are enthusiastic about food and how it can change lives. They use empowerment as a tool in the kitchen, encouraging kids to create their own meals with healthy ingredients. Because Little Kitchen Academy is Montessori-based, kids are guided without being told what to do, fostering practical life skills, along with kitchen skills, which gives them confidence and the will to move forward in their lessons. Some kids may come out of their lessons here moving into the food industry, some may just do it for the love of food. Either way, the lessons learned here will always be useful (we all have to eat!).

Director's Message

One of my favourite things to do when our children have friends over is to cook or bake together. I find willing helpers at all ages. They love to get involved and offer suggestions or opinions. I am always surprised at the varying degrees of confidence in the kitchen. The only constant is enthusiasm. While making recipes we expose children to food literacy and teach them practical life skills. While making recipes we expose children to basic fundamentals of math. They learn patterns, yields, time management, fractions. They work with science. Adding or subtracting heat from matter, watching yeast bloom, adding different elements to form reactions.
