At Kandalore we recognize the need to attract, train and retain qualified and committed staff. There is no better place to develop these staff members than from within our current camper group. LITs are chosen primarily from our Pathfinder and Explorer participants, however, applications are welcome from those who are new to the Kandalore community. LITs spend three sessions paired with cabin groups and shadowing activity instructors and one session working with the LIT Directors, organizing all camp activities, going on a 5-day canoe trip and lesson planning.

The LIT program is a great way to build key leadership while having fun at camp!

Leaders who successfully complete the LIT program are ready to apply for a Counsellor job the following year.

All LITs are eligible to work toward the following certifications:

Standard First Aid and CPR-C
Bronze Medallion and/or Cross
ORCKA canoeing levels
Healthy Living & Outdoor Activities, Grade 12 (PLF4M) OSSD Credit
60 hours of community service

Character Development: This program helps build the following traits

  • Responsibility: In this program, our leaders learn the responsibilities of working with and caring for campers. It develops their independence and builds skills in leadership, communication and mentorship.
  • Interpersonal skills: LITs assist counsellors with cabin times, and activity instruction. They work on their skills working with kids, staff and fellow leaders.
