(4.5) Overall experience

Overall our experience has been positive. My child started in the youth program and recently transitioned to the teen program. We have watched his confidence in his abilities grow as he learns the correct form and improves to his personal best. This has translated into other activities he participates in such as football. Both his physical and mental health and social well-being have been impacted for the better. We are excited to see how he progresses as he continues to participate in the program.

(4.5) Reason for choosing the program

We were looking for something to get our child out of the house and off electronics and that would also benefit his playing football. Location definitely played a role in our choice as did the fact the program focused on all aspects of wellbeing, not just physical. To see our child grow and have confidence in himself as he ventures into high school soon is well worth the cost associated with his attending the gym.

(4.5) Program quality and activities

Our child particularly enjoys doing deadlifts when at the gym. He will take every opportunity to work on improving his form and personal best. The trainer really listens to what the kids would like to improve on and incorporates that into the development of the program. The trainers are good at meeting the kids where they are at and tailoring a program that reduces the likelihood of injury and challenges the kids at the same time.

(4.5) Social dynamics and experience

The social environment at the gym has been particularly important given the impact of the pandemic on our child's social skills. We have seen a definite change where he is better able to speak up for himself and make connections with other kids his age. He even got to reconnect with an old friend he hadn't seen for a while who we didn't know was attending the gym.

(4.5) Skills and growth

Our child for reasons unclear has been the kid who thinks he should just be able to do something and when he can't gets easily discouraged. Attending the gym and having to slow things down to work on form and endurance has definitely helped this. He perseveres more now when he can't do something well the first time. He doesn't get as easily discouraged.

(4.5) Staff/Instructors/Counsellors

The staff really listen to and encourage the kids. They provide feedback in a constructive and positive way that helps with improving skills and meeting challenges. Staff are very approachable and respond to texts and emails in a timely manner and always make a point of checking in when I am there watching.

(4.5) Advice and tips

The best advice I would give is just go and check out the gym. If possible set up a time to go when the class your child would be attending is happening so can see firsthand what the programming involves. Come with questions the staff are more than happy to answer and discuss. One thing we wish is that we had known about the gym sooner than we did.
