For this week's full-day session, enjoy our Language Arts program for the morning session and our Tech program for the afternoon session. 

Language Arts Program

Improvisational Comedy: "Whose Line is it Anyway?" 

Improvisational Comedy is one of the most entertaining and engaging forms of performance there is!  Students will learn to think quickly, speak clearly, and stand confidently as they create hilarious scenes based on nothing but basic suggestions and the power of imagination.

Areas of Focus | Students will get to:

  • Learn various Whose Line is it Anyway style games
  • Support each other during scenes
  • Perform for their peers

Main Skills to be taught and practiced:

  • Quick thinking/Decision making
  • Public Speaking
  • Relaxed, confident posture
  • Teamwork

End-of-Week Project:  

Whose Line show - an improv showcase for the peers of Focus Learning summer camp!

Prerequisites for the students:

A willingness to be silly, a sense of humour, and an easy smile!

Tech Program

LEGO Mindstorms: Spike Prime 

 The LEGO Education SPIKE Prime Set is the go-to STEM learning tool for grade 3-8 students. Combining colorful LEGO building elements, easy-to-use hardware, and an intuitive drag-and-drop coding language based on Scratch, SPIKE Prime continuously engages students through playful learning activities to think critically and solve complex problems, regardless of their learning level. From easy-entry projects to limitless creative design possibilities, including the option to explore text-based coding with Python, SPIKE Prime helps students learn the essential STEM and 21st century skills needed to become the innovative minds of tomorrow... while having fun! 

Class Experience

Robots with sensors will be built from schematics . They use drivetrains to navigate, use sensors to help solve mazes and other programming tasks.

What Students Will Learn

Building and programming a robot to engage in activities, students will learn about project flow, loops, conditionals, algorithms.

Areas of Focus

  • Introduction and Fundamentals of Robotics
  • Moving your robot with blocks-based programming
  • Repeating Behaviors to drive your robot in patterns
  • Navigating a Maze using sensors for wall detection


Character Development: This program helps build the following traits

  • Curiosity: Love of learning. Intellectual engagement. Enthusiasm for experiencing the world. Proclivity to develop passions and interests.
  • Creativity: Interest and pleasure in exploring creative potential. Tendency to see novel solutions to problems.
