For Vancouver-based students who wish to attend Debate classes at our Vancouver academy – we are looking forward to having you! All other students (both within BC and around the world) may take virtual lessons via Zoom.

Debate at FDT Academy

Debate is the act of formal disagreement and is a subject that lies at the core of FDT’s curriculum. It is the same activity that has sharpened the minds of influential people such as Nelson Mandela, Margaret Thatcher, and Oprah Winfrey. Going beyond just teaching students how to form arguments, FDT encourages students to learn how to use rhetoric and evidence through debate, forming a skillset that allows them to succeed in their future academic and professional careers. At FDT, students are able to take the skills they learn in the classroom to tournaments we offer locally, nationally, or even internationally in countries such as the United States, Great Britain, the Czech Republic, and Thailand.

Group Classes

Our weekly debate group classes range in size from 3 to 30 in a class, with one teacher for every 4-6 students. From introductory level courses to our competitive “Top Class” for the most experienced students, and everything in between, FDT’s group classes allow students to put theory to practice. 

Private Lessons

FDT offers one-on-one private Debate lessons, providing students with an opportunity to work on individual challenges and receive unique attention for longer periods of time. Private lessons allow students to spend more time working on individualized strategies and are an excellent way to prepare for tournaments.
