Workshops

In Jr. DEEP Saturdays, students are grouped by grade level and will have the opportunity to explore a series of three workshops, rotating through all of them over the course of the three-week program.

Round 1 Workshops (October 26-November 9, 2024)

Intergalactic Biome

In this workshop, students will have the chance to design and build their own biodome, which is a controlled environment meant to support life on another planet. This activity involves learning about ecosystems, sustainable environments, and the challenges of creating habitats suitable for life in outer space.

Illuminate & Innovate

During this workshop, students will construct their very own slide projector. This activity involves exploring optics, light projection, and basic physics principles related to how light travels and interacts with surfaces. By building a slide projector, students can gain a deeper understanding of light and its properties.

Light it Up!

In this workshop, students will create an electric circuit that lights up when stepped on. This activity combines engineering and interactive design, allowing students to learn about circuits, conductivity, and basic electronics principles. Building a circuit that responds to movement adds an element of fun and creativity to the learning process.

Round 1 Disciplines: Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering

Round 2 Workshops (November 16-November 30, 2024)

Awesome Automation

Building a mechanical arm is a hands-on way to introduce students to automation and robotics. This activity will encourage students to think about how machines can operate to perform tasks, sparking their interest in the world of robotics and mechanical engineering.

Hovercrafts & Hydrofoils

Constructing model hovercrafts allows students to explore principles of physics, aerodynamics, and fluid dynamics. It's a creative way to teach them about how air pressure and other forces work, and how they can be harnessed to create functional vehicles.

Propeller Propulsion

Building a propeller plane model introduces students to the basics of aviation and aerodynamics. They'll learn about how propellers generate thrust and how aircraft can stay in the air. This hands-on experience inspires an interest in aviation and aeronautical engineering.

Round 2 Disciplines: Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Science
