(5) Overall experience
I am so grateful to Codezilla for providing such a welcoming and supportive camp experience for my child on the autism spectrum. The staff goes above and beyond, to tailor the camp activities to my child's unique needs and interests, making sure he feels comfortable and engaged. My son is beyond excited to return this summer, not only to continue learning new skills but also to have the incredible opportunity to assist in teaching younger campers. This has been such a confidence booster for him, and I couldn't be more thankful for this camp's thoughtful and inclusive environment.
(5) Reason for choosing the camp
My child is very interested in technology, Roblox, Minecraft, YouTube, and engineering. The small groups, experience with ASD, and proximity to home were all factors that attracted me to the camp. Knowing the owner was a teacher and mother and was trained in special needs children put my mind at ease.
(5) Program quality and activities
The camp kept my child engaged and when he was too advanced for the task at hand, it gave him the opportunity to assist younger campers. My child especially loved that he could take new courses each week but if a particular topic was not of interest to him the staff was flexible and would allow him to think outside the box.
(5) Social dynamics and experience
My child made some lovely new friends. There was absolutely no bullying at camp. The staff are extremely vigilant about maintaining a warm and inclusive environment for all campers. If there was ever an issue with behaviour I was contacted immediately and our interaction was always supportive and understanding. The staff is a little older than you would normally find at a day camp which really makes a difference.
(5) Skills and growth
My child was not particularly challenged however that was not the intent for the summer. He needed to feel safe and understood in a welcoming and inclusive environment and that is exactly what he received. My child had the opportunity to work on his social skills without feeling pressured to engage. This summer he will be taking new courses which he is really looking forward to.
(5) Staff/Instructors/Counsellors
The staff went out of their way to ensure my child was safe and comfortable at all times even if that meant sitting out of activities he felt were overwhelming for him. They always kept in constant communication with me to let me know how he was doing. The staff are so prompt at answering any questions or concerns.
(5) Advice and tips
I would highly recommend Codezilla to anyone whose child prefers a quieter more relaxed environment for their camp experience. If your child is shy, on the spectrum, or just prefers a smaller group setting with warm and caring staff this is definitely the place! There are so many different courses to choose from and being able to switch things up each week keeps things interesting for the kids. I only wish I had known about them sooner!
