In our Pre-Leadership Camp program, campers age 13-14 are introduced to concepts of leadership such as teamwork, initiative, and role-modelling. They also participate in classic camp activities, head out on a 2-night introductory canoe trip, and grow and challenge themselves alongside a close-knit group of peers.

This program typically ranges in size from approximately 10 to 20 campers, who spend three weeks building their skills in camp activities, participating in group initiatives, and forming lasting friendships and memories. Our dedicated and caring staff are well-prepared to support campers through the experiences of being away from home, learning to work as a team, and challenging themselves to try new things.

Each afternoon, Pre-Leadership campers participate in teambuilding activities, games, initiatives, and adventure programming designed to challenge campers and support learning about the foundations of leadership and teamwork at an age-appropriate level. In the mornings, each camper will be scheduled for two morning classes (based on activity choices completed ahead of their session), which provide the opportunity to develop skills, work toward goals, and practice acting as a role model for younger campers. These morning activity periods include sailing, canoeing, kayaking, windsurfing, land sports, archery, eco, arts & crafts, drama & dance, and more. PLCs also have the chance to do specialized morning activities as a group, which range from gardening and cooking to hiking and swimming.

Pre-Leadership campers also join in on an hour of free time each day before dinner, with the option to go swimming, boating, or rock climbing! After dinner there are organized sports tournaments, clubs, and the chance to hang out with friends. The whole camp then joins together for Evening Program - like a campfire or wacky game! After a fun-filled day, campers wind down with an evening snack, getting ready for bed, and a daily "check-in" with their cabin group.

Partway through the 3-week program, campers head into town to do laundry. The program often includes other excursions to local attractions, like the Peterborough Petroglyphs or the Warsaw Caves.

Character Development: This program helps build the following traits

  • Interpersonal skills: A major focus of PLC initiatives is building positive communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills. Spending three weeks with a group of like-aged peers allows for the development of close friendships and a positive community.
  • Responsibility: PLC campers are supported and guided through taking on new responsibilities in the camp community. They learn to act as positive role models for younger campers, build independence, and to work together to overcome challenges.
