Camp Homewood has been serving children from BC’s coast since 1944. Our Mission is to share the Gospel of Christ through caring relationships and quality programs, using God’s creation. Today, campers come from across North America to have the best week of their lives at Sailing, Harbour, Woodsman, and Ranch Camps. We also offer 3 weeks of Family camp. Fun, great food, evening firesides with skits, singing and a speaker, plus tons of activities are common to all of our programs. Activities vary depending on the camp and include sailing, horse riding, archery, riflery, tubing, canoeing, paddle boarding, kayaking, hiking, swimming, crafts, wide games, orienteering, and more!

Homewood's sailing camps are unique in Canada. Youth spend 5-6 days at sea learning to work as a team to sail a 27' Catalina sailboat. Trips typically include 4 boats with a crew of 5 campers per boat plus a certified skipper and a bosun. The day begins with a hot breakfast before heading off to explore the coast. While sailing to your next destination, you may see dolphins, eagles, seals, whales, or other wildlife. Enjoy lunch on board, cool off by swinging from the mast and swimming in the ocean, practice knots, learn, laugh, and take a turn at the helm. At the end of the day, enjoy a hot supper on another remote island. Hike to a waterfall or lake, play games, listen to your speaker share about God, and if dry, sleep under the stars.

At its core, Christianity is about how we act toward others, expressed best in Jesus’ Golden Rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” At Camp Homewood, those words are put into action in its programming, focus on caring relationships, and in how kids come away from camp more fully equipped to be kinder and loving toward others.
Alf and Margaret Bayne founded the camp rooted in ministry. Situated on Heriot Bay and overlooking the water, Homewood is a classic summer camp experience that immerses them in “The Creator’s Handiwork.” Today, ministry remains a strong focus, with counsellors expected to round up their own funding. That exemplifies the devotion integral to Camp Homewood. From Rivendell (the camp’s main lodge) outward, Homewood instills kids with a deeper understanding of Creation and the work of the Holy Spirit in their lives.
I am looking forward to welcoming your child (or your entire family!) to camp this summer. We have been working hard since camp ended last August to prepare a very special experience for each of our campers this year. Our Summer Team is loaded with eager young people who are ready to serve and grow, our facility is in top condition, and our program is packed with fun and adventure! I know you will enjoy every minute of camp, and that you will build friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. See you soon!
Homewood has a Summer Team of 80-100 volunteers. All are carefully selected and trained. Our skippers are adults who are certified to operate sailboats in protected waters. Head Skippers have years of experience on the water. They will safely guide your child through the world famous waters of the Discovery Islands. Our bosuns are carefully selected for their ability to relate to and lead youth. They help make every day fun and memorable.

More details about property: Homewood's Harbour and Ranch camps are located on a 270 acre site on the shore of Gowlland Harbour. Woodsman Camp is a walk-in or boat-in site located on the shores of Mine Lake in Main Lake Provincial Park. The majority of our recreation activities are done outside so campers can enjoy and interact with our spectacular waterfront and coastal rainforest setting. Activities in and on the water include swimming, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, tubing, rowing, etc. Hikes to the Bluff or exploring the intertidal zone along our expansive shoreline are always favourite activities. Ranch campers will enjoy trail rides, riding instruction in our indoor and outdoor riding arenas, plus animal husbandry.

More details about accommodations: Youth at Harbour, Ranch and Woodsman camps sleep in huge canvas platform tents (16' x 24'). Sailing campers sleep in tents or hammocks on picturesque islands in the Discovery Island group as they explore the coast. Family campers can stay in Rivendell Lodge, the Guest House, cabins, platform tents, or in their own RV in our RV Park.
Are meals provided? Yes.
Is Camp Homewood technology free? Yes. Homewood asks that campers leave their cell phones at home. Cell phone use is not permitted while camps are in session. Our goal is for campers to interact with each other, with staff, and to be fully engaged in the activities.
Offers outdoor education program for schools or corporate groups: Yes
Camp Homewood was a pioneer in Outdoor Education in British Columbia, and we have been offering quality programs for school groups for over 50 years. Bring your class for a day trip or a multi-night experience. Our trained and enthusiastic staff will teach your students archery, riflery, map & compass / orienteering, canoeing, kayaking, beach study in the intertidal zone, and outdoor living. Go for a hike through the rainforest or sit and listen to the birds! In the evening we'll even organize wide games and a campfire complete with fun songs and skits! Hungry? Our Red Seal chef knows how to serve up fabulous fare (we don't believe in 'camp food'!). Our buses can pick your students up at the ferry or shuttle your class to Rebecca Spit Provincial Park. Let's work together to create an experience that will be treasured for a lifetime!
Available for private rentals: Yes
Camp Homewood specializes in private rentals from September to June. If your group is between 30 and 150 people, we should talk! During our 'off-season', we host almost 60 guest groups including quilting guilds, scrap bookers, community and church groups, family reunions and weddings, plus special groups such as the Vancouver Island Pony Club and Diabetes Canada. Want us to provide the program? You bet! Want to run your own program? We're happy to host. Want to work together to create something you just couldn't do anywhere else? Let's talk! Regardless of which route you want to go, our Red Seal chef will create amazing food that will please your palate and our staff and volunteers will work hard to exceed your expectations.
