The Our Kids review of Camp Eden Woods

    our take

Nestled in a stunning 70-acre property overlooking Elephant Lake in Haliburton, Ontario, Camp Eden Woods offers an authentic overnight camp experience for children aged 7 to 17. The camp emphasizes traditional multi-activity programs in a coed environment. The intimate size of Eden Woods creates a warm, close-knit community where every child is seen, heard, and valued. The diverse group of counselors includes previous campers, Canadians, and international staff from Europe and Australia, all bringing a wide range of skills and talents. Additionally, they hold essential certifications in CPR, lifeguarding, boating, and high ropes activities. Campers are accommodated in rustic cabins that sleep 10-18 people, each equipped with modern, functional washrooms and showers. Committed to a technology-free environment, the camp encourages campers to be fully present in their experiences. The property features a variety of sports facilities, including an archery range, basketball court, rope course, and a soccer field, alongside opportunities for water sports and artistic endeavors. The philosophy of Camp Eden Woods is centered on the need for kids to unplug, reconnect, and explore their passions in a structured yet liberating environment. The programs cater to different age groups, offering a traditional camp for 7-13-year-olds, the Teen Adventure Program (TAP) for 13-14-year-olds, the Leaders In Training (LIT) program for 14-16-year-olds, and the Counselor In Training (CIT) program for 16-17-year-olds. Each program is uniquely designed, ranging from extended curfews and socials in TAP to leadership training and certifications in the LIT and CIT programs.

    Director's Message

We founded Camp Eden in 2001 with a goal of bringing authenticity back to the world of summer camp. We transitioned to sleepover camp in 2012 with the purchase of the old Elephant Lake Lodge. As life partners and seasoned camp operators, we discovered this "diamond in the rough" on this stunning lake and realized it was the perfect, natural setting to give our campers exactly what they need. As parents to 5 kids of our own we felt like we had a good understanding of how versatile the campers needs were and how important it is to respect every campers individuality.

These days, kids are typically surrounded by screens and scheduled to go from one activity to another - and this lifestyle has even found its way into some sleepover camps.  Our approach is different.  We believe kids need to unplug to truly reconnect, and have a bit of free time to explore their own passions and discover the world.

At Camp Eden Woods, we strive everyday to give them that freedom to grow, challenge themselves, make new friends and most of all - lasting memories.

Since opening in 2012, our camp has grown by leaps and bounds, driven by word of mouth from one satisfied parent (and happy child) to another. We look forward to sharing the next chapter of our story with your family.

All the best from Elephant Lake,

    Lior & Sharon Gluzberg
