BHDC’s new Aquatic Sport Camp is designed to engage campers in physical fitness and aquatic safety through water sports! Campers will learn the basics of different aquatic activities such as water polo and aqua fitness, along with first aid and junior lifesaving skills. Each day will include a morning and afternoon time block in our Athletic and Wellness Centre’s saltwater pools, and a variety of on-land camp-style programming. Campers will also have the opportunity to participate in physical fitness activities led by Branksome’s Athletic Therapist – a key component to staying active in the water is learning how to develop strength and stamina outside the pool! This camp is a good jumping off point for water enthusiasts to explore different aquatic streams such as Lifesaving Clubs, pre-competitive swim teams, regional water polo leagues, future employment in aquatics, and much more! At the end of the two-week session, campers will be Water Safety Ambassadors and will be encouraged to continue building their skills in aquatics.
In order to ensure maximum participation and enjoyment of the Aquatic Sport program, campers need to have passed Lifesaving Society Swimmer Level 4 OR be able to complete the Swim to Survive Standard which includes a roll entry into deep water, treading water for 1 minute and then swimming 50m unassisted. If you have any questions about your camper’s swimming abilities in order to participate, please contact us by email ahead of registration.
