Are you looking for a unique way to explore and enhance your creativity? Try your hand at pottery! We will hand-build several forms, experiment with various decorating techniques, and even throw something on the potter’s wheel. By the end of the week, each participant will have at least two objects ready to load into the kiln.
Instructor: Shannon Mercer Lee
Shannon Mercer-Lee has taught at STS for seven years in the Elementary School. She discovered the beauty and flexibility of clay almost a decade ago and has been in love ever since! She hopes to express her passion for nature on the surfaces of wheel-thrown and hand-built pots and would love to share her obsession with clay with you.

NOTE: If you have already registered your child or would like to register your child for one of the STS Summer Camp opportunities running at the same time, accommodations can be made by contacting Scott Bennett, [email protected].

Character Development: This program helps build the following traits

  • Creativity: Clay provides a versatile medium for expression and exploration. Its malleable nature allows individuals to experiment with various forms, textures, and techniques, encouraging imaginative thinking and problem-solving. Working with clay stimulates sensory experiences, promoting tactile exploration
  • Resilience: The unpredictability of working with clay encourages adaptability and resilience, as creators learn to embrace imperfections and adapt their designs. Overall, clay serves as a dynamic canvas for creativity, inspiring endless possibilities and empowering individuals to unleash artistic potential
