(5) Overall experience

ARTSies Inc. is an excellent Children's Musical Theater company, they go above and beyond to teach life skills, they are professional and inclusive. The individuals that run the program, Libby and Joey, are great at what they do and both are excellent teachers! My child has become more confident in her abilities as an actor and has found newfound confidence in singing and performing choreographed routines through this program. As a parent it has been very rewarding to see my child grow through her experience at this program and to see her confidence and sense of belonging blossom. ARTSies provides a supportive and structured learning environment that sets children up for success.

(5) Reason for choosing the camp

Our child has had such a wonderful experience during the school season sessions of ARTSies that when it came to planning summer camp activities ARTSies was the perfect choice. Our child strongly prefers ARTSies over any other musical theater, theater class, or camp that she has attended. Our child has quickly grown in confidence through fall, winter, and spring seasons so an opportunity to have daily classes during summer camp is a real treat! With Libby and Joey running the show (no pun intended) there are no surprises. They are always very detailed, proactive, and forthcoming with any information you will need.

(5) Program quality and activities

The ARTSies program lined up with what our child wanted because she wanted to learn the art of theater including acting, singing and dancing. Some performances are more singing-based and some are less, which allows for different experiences. For example, our daughter originally wanted to focus on acting and found out that she really loves to learn choreography and has the confidence to sing in front of an audience, because she has been exposed to it through the program. The program is a good size for all children to get the attention and focus they need to hone in on their skills and potentially discover new ones.

(5) Social dynamics and experience

My child has made new friendships at Artsies and now loves being a part of the Artsies family. It took a couple of sessions for her to gain this level of comfort and now that she has she enjoys the experience even more. The ARTSies environment is very inclusive and that is encouraged in the students as well. Any comments made by cast members that are not appropriate are few and far between and in the rare instance that they do happen, they are quickly addressed.

(5) Skills and growth

ARTsies teaches the importance of teamwork - my child has learned the importance of trusting other classmates and showing up prepared to help make a show a success. My child has grown in confidence and most noticeably in her comfort level of acting and singing in front of audiences which is something she has always wanted to do but has shied away from in the past.

(5) Staff/Instructors/Counsellors

Artsies is very administratively strong - Libby and Joey are extremely organized. They know how to break down an entire play into manageable chunks for children. Additionally, they communicate detailed instructions proactively and provide constant updates with all of the details you need for your child to be set up for success. This includes detailed information such as how to access the rehearsal location, timing, transportation, helpful videos recapping what has been worked on and what the choreography is (this is very helpful to support your child memorizing steps). Artsies is an inclusive organization that teaches treating cast members as respected team members.

(5) Advice and tips

Be prepared for acting, singing and dancing at home! We have found getting the whole family involved in rehearsing lines, singing along and dancing helps us all appreciate the work that goes into a performance and also makes it even more enjoyable to watch! Performances can be exhausting so plan for lots of healthy snacks and rest before and after.
